Introduce Yourself : Just wanted to introduce myself! by Jeremy Beimfohr

Just wanted to introduce myself!

My name is Jeremy I am just starting out to become a film maker. I am currently working pre production on a short film as well as a feature. The feature film came to my mind first but figured I will give a short film a try first as for not as much goes into making a short film compared to a feature film. Right now I am just working with an IPhone 16 Pro Max that I plan to shoot my short film on but I plan to upgrade to a Sony FX3 for my feature film.

I absolutely adore my family and do everything I can with them. I work full time at a prison as a Correctional Lieutenant. The job can be demanding at times and it is hard to lose focus at times but I am pushing through with my ideas of becoming a film maker.

I’m just starting out too! Last year I realized I really love writing screenplays and cinema. Right now I’m working on a feature-length rom-com. I actually work in a children’s home, which isn’t my dream job, but my love for film makes life much more interesting.

It’s so nice to see your love for your family — I feel the same about my kids; they’re my biggest motivation.

Wishing you a happy New Year and may all your dreams come true!

You're welcome, Jeremy Beimfohr. What genre(s) is your short?

Jeremy Beimfohr

Both my short film and feature film that I am writing are going to be drama based. The feature film will be sub genre suspense/ thriller.

Hi Jeremy Beimfohr, welcome to Stage 32. I’m Ashley Smith, Head of Community here, and I’m really glad you took the time to share your story.

First of all, you’re making a very smart move starting with a short film. That instinct to test your workflow, storytelling, and production process on a smaller scale before jumping fully into a feature is exactly how a lot of filmmakers build confidence and momentum. Shooting your short on an iPhone 16 Pro Max is also a great choice. Plenty of strong films have been made that way, and it lets you focus on story, performances, and visual language without waiting for “perfect” gear. Planning to step up to a Sony FX3 for your feature makes sense when the time comes, but what matters most right now is that you’re actually creating.

As you’re getting started, you may find the Filmmaking Lounge especially helpful (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/directing). It’s a great place to talk production, gear, shooting strategies, and learn from others who’ve made shorts and features at every budget level. If you’re developing scripts for your short and feature, the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting) is full of writers and filmmakers workshopping ideas and offering feedback. And as you move deeper into planning and logistics, the Producing Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/producing) can be incredibly useful for pre-production thinking and problem-solving.

If you ever want more guided learning, our Education Team is there to help. You can email them at (Edu@Stage32.com) and let them know you’re a new filmmaker working toward your first short and feature, and they can recommend specific webinars or classes that fit exactly where you are right now. And when you’re ready to think about next steps, strategy, or professional pathways for your projects, our Success Team at (Success@Stage32.com) can help point you toward curated resources and opportunities.
