Launching of Forgiving Retribution, the Award Winning Short Film

Last night we launched my short film, Forgiving Retribution, on YouTube, so it is now out in the world for all to view and see. We have won over 50 film festival awards from Rome to Australia. There is really nothing out there that touches on this topic. I hope you all enjoy the film and I would appreciate any comments you might have. There is a "Marvel Ending"...a final scene after the credits roll. Thanks for taking a look!!!

Very down to Earth depiction of grief. The focus on the sitting and feeling alone reminded me of what my grandmother told me about it.

Curt Samlaska

Thanks Maurice. Appreciate it.

Thank you Michael. One of my patients is a retired thoracic surgeon. He read the script. He told me that the script affected him…he said he doesn’t remember his successes. He only remembers his failures. I hope to get healthcare providers to share their stories.

It got me thinking about my latest novel, "Life's Call", about a guy whose very successful in his work and with his family , but at 47 something from his teenage years keeps popping out at him. He loved painting. His wife agrees when he says he wants to take a week and just drive to a deep forest and just walk within nature to think about his life work. After a week alone, he returns home realizing that he wants to leave his successful work career and begin a paining career, which he does. I think many of us follow our lives into "something", but down deep is a deep desire to create. That was me, for sure. So folks do what you internally love and life will be fulfilled if you find that joy of creation.

That's awesome Dave. Sounds like it will be a great topic for a novel. Everyone blooms at different times in life. There are people out there in the 70's finally living their dream. We all have lessons to learn. What I connected with most when playing Dr. Brona was the life lesson that none of us ever really know how much we inspire others, and in what way they get something from us without us even knowing it. Sometimes we are lucky enough to have a glimpse of that. This film enlightened me to start trusting that my efforts in life will make a difference. Just tonight a neighbor(who is a friend that I don't get to see much) came into my work and told me how much my performance hit her. How she truly felt everything I was feeling in the movie and that it brought her to tears. She couldn't stop raving about how much it touched her. I stood there with tears in my eyes thanking her for such kindness and so much validation. Oddly enough today I just needed that....hearing that I made a difference, especially in someone's life who I actually know, made me even more aware of how many people are feeling that way that I may never meet... I am truly grateful for this experience and all it is teaching me, even at my age! Thanks for sharing your story Dave and keep that faith in yourself.

I am hoping that we will encourage healthcare providers to tell their stories of patient interactions that moved them. I let a retired cardiothoracic surgeon read my script before the filming was complete. The script really moved him...he said that he does not remember his successes. He remembers his failures...
