Screenwriting : What is your favorite 2025 screenplay that you've read? by Eric McKeever

What is your favorite 2025 screenplay that you've read?

I've been diving into some of the 2025 Oscar-buzz worthy screenplays and wanted to see what the other screenwriters out there are reading and loving.

Maurice Vaughan

I haven't read any 2025 screenplays yet, but Sinners is at the top of my list, Eric McKeever.

Pat Alexander

The Weapons screenplay was very exciting. Also I liked the A Complete Unknown screenplay as well!

Marie Hatten

I’ve read the Sinners screenplay and about to read the No Other Choice screenplay .

Michael David

Thought Jay Kelly was an excellent screenplay and a masterclass in how internal conflict can be a driver. On the otherhand I didn't care for the Hamnet screenplay. So.much so in fact I don't want to see the film.

Lindbergh Hollingsworth

I'll step off the Oscars' scripts - I did read quite a few screenplays by writers here on S32 that are very, very good!

Eric McKeever

Really enjoyed (and learned from) the Sinners and Weapons screenplays. Reading Frankenstein at the moment! Will check out Jay Kelly Michael David

Carlos Martins

The independent space often yields the most original voices, particularly those who have mastered the beat-sheet pacing necessary for modern audiences.

Tiffiney Cornish

Very much enjoyed HIM, though the actual movie deviated from it quite a bit.

Just wanted to update: I've had a chance to read "Frankenstein", "Bugonia", "Sinners", and "Weapons." It's been a wonderful learning tool and a lot of fun hearing each writer's individual voice coming through the page.

Ayesha Simra

I’ve read Get Out and A Quiet Place, and what really stayed with me is how concept and character are inseparable in both. The rules of the world are clear, but the emotional stakes are what actually drive every scene. Also a great reminder that restraint--what you don’t say or show--can be just as powerful as dialogue.

Michael David

By now I have seen and read the "Best Original Screenplay" nominees. I vote for It Was Just An Accident. Excellent raising stakes craft and moral theme shines through. Off to read and see the "Best Adapted Screenplay" nominees!

Lawrence Stern

I thought "Blue Moon" was really well written. "Hamnet" was lovely too (although I was surprised it didn't show more of Shakespeare's inspirations for his literary masterpieces in the first 90 mins).

Marie Hatten

Am curious how to you all find time to read them , do you set an intention of maybe one a week ?

Marie Hatten

Ayesha Simra A Quiet place is extraordinary.

Michael David

Marie Hatten I read one each weekend! I love seeing new techniques that are being used and what the pros are doing!

Maurice Vaughan

I find time during the week and weekend to read scripts, Marie Hatten, like early in the morning or at night.

Eric McKeever

Marie Hatten I commute into NYC for work, so I read them going in and coming home.

Michael David

Eric McKeever That should give you at least 3 solid hours a day! Lol!
