Thought Jay Kelly was an excellent screenplay and a masterclass in how internal conflict can be a driver. On the otherhand I didn't care for the Hamnet screenplay. So.much so in fact I don't want to see the film.
The independent space often yields the most original voices, particularly those who have mastered the beat-sheet pacing necessary for modern audiences.
Just wanted to update: I've had a chance to read "Frankenstein", "Bugonia", "Sinners", and "Weapons." It's been a wonderful learning tool and a lot of fun hearing each writer's individual voice coming through the page.
I’ve read Get Out and A Quiet Place, and what really stayed with me is how concept and character are inseparable in both. The rules of the world are clear, but the emotional stakes are what actually drive every scene. Also a great reminder that restraint--what you don’t say or show--can be just as powerful as dialogue.
By now I have seen and read the "Best Original Screenplay" nominees. I vote for It Was Just An Accident. Excellent raising stakes craft and moral theme shines through. Off to read and see the "Best Adapted Screenplay" nominees!
I thought "Blue Moon" was really well written. "Hamnet" was lovely too (although I was surprised it didn't show more of Shakespeare's inspirations for his literary masterpieces in the first 90 mins).

I haven't read any 2025 screenplays yet, but Sinners is at the top of my list, Eric McKeever.

I'll step off the Oscars' scripts - I did read quite a few screenplays by writers here on S32 that are very, very good!

Very much enjoyed HIM, though the actual movie deviated from it quite a bit.
