Screenwriting : The Quiet Win by Leonardo Ramirez

Leonardo Ramirez

The Quiet Win

Some wins are just for you. New creative friendships that inspire, a new creative spark, the start of an outline, or finally realizing a premise (or three) that you never thought you’d write.

For me, the new year began with a story completely out of my element (and two in the wings) —and making it work. I wondered if I had the chops for it—turns out, I just needed to believe.

What’s a quiet win you’ve had with the start of the new year?

Maurice Vaughan

That's great, Leonardo Ramirez! Congratulations! I wrote a short script as a writing sample a while back, and I figured out how to turn it into a feature script today.

Meriem Bouziani

My biggest win right now is my English improvement, haha. I never thought I could develop this much. Thanks to my teacher, ChatGPT.

Meriem Bouziani

I really like the idea of stepping out of the comfort zone.

I think each of us has a specific writing pattern, deeply layered in our imagination. Trying something new is both challenging and fascinating.

I hope you make it in the best way you can.

Leonardo Ramirez

Congratulations Maurice Vaughan - that's awesome! It's interesting how that short script idea just kind of sparks into a full feature format. Very cool.

Leonardo Ramirez

I think you're right Meriem Bouziani - we have a "voice" which translates to patterns. It's already been good for me to venture out. I'm sure I'll be challenged as I further develop these but that's a good thing.

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Leonardo Ramirez. You're right. And sometimes I test out a feature script idea with a short script.

Meriem Bouziani

Good luck with your new journey. Leonardo Ramirez

Leonardo Ramirez

You're very welcome Maurice Vaughan. Hope it goes awesomely. And thank you so much Meriem Bouziani !!

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Leonardo Ramirez. I'm thinking about changing the genres for the feature script version. Looking forward to hearing more about your story!

Leonardo Ramirez

You're welcome Maurice Vaughan. And changing genres sounds like more creative challenge which is great. Looking forward to hearing more about yours as well.

Quinn Angell

I finished the third draft of a book I'm writing several days ago. I'm taking a break by writing the first draft of a new screenplay. It's been a lovely way to start the year! Wish everyone the best of luck!

Leonardo Ramirez

That's fantastic Quinn Angell! And great idea to take a break. That's the time when those little things we want to fix show themselves. Even so, the rest is good. All the best on that Quinn!

Sandra Correia

Love this, Leonardo Ramirez. Quiet wins are my favorite, mostly because they don’t require confetti, a marching band, or me pretending I know how to celebrate publicly :))

And huge congratulations on your win my friend, that spark you described is the kind that sneaks up on you and suddenly rearranges your whole creative compass.

My own win this year snuck up on me: after finishing both of my screenplays (yes, both… I’am still schocked) I somehow found myself in the middle of packaging them. And honestly, that process has been surprisingly inspiring, like discovering a superpower you didn’t know you had, but it only works after three coffees and a pep talk :D

Celebrating the wins that whisper, “You’re doing great,” while you’re still wondering who put you in charge of all this.

Leonardo Ramirez

That's beautiful Sandra Correia and you have some amazing accomplishments - TWO screenplays - that's HUGE! And now you have the task of packaging them which is monumental for one alone. As always, you're an inspiration my friend. Thank you!

Marcel Jr.

Still here, still breathing, still working on my feature screenplay. Why? Because I enjoy it. It keeps me grounded during these tough times.

Leonardo Ramirez

Best of all reasons Marcel Jr. Always good to hear from you.

Elle Bolan

Hi Leonardo! I love that you took on a project you were unsure of and found new pathways you didn't know were possible.

Leonardo Ramirez

Thanks a ton Elle Bolan. There’s been quite a learning curve but I’m loving it!

Juliana Philippi

Leonardo Ramirez My quiet win, well, I'll keep it quiet a bit still, but, honestly? Believing, then seeing : ) It's all within me.

Leonardo Ramirez

Love it Juliana Philippi. Ya sabes!

Joshua Young

There's something beautifully honest about calling these "quiet wins" because they really are the ones we hold close to the chest. Congrats on pushing into unfamiliar creative territory and discovering you had the range all along. My quiet win this year has been dusting off a feature script I shelved three years ago after the film industry almost collapsed and I wasn't sure about the state of the feature film world. When unexpected investor interest came knocking, I revisited it with fresh eyes and now I'm deep into another edit before investor meetings begin. Sometimes a story needs you to live a little more before you can finish telling it. Here's to all the wins that don't make the announcements but keep us writing anyway.

Leonardo Ramirez

Congratulations on gaining investor interest Joshua Young - that's fantastic! And I agree that it's good to allow life to grow us into being ready. We tend to want success yesterday but sometimes, what we long for is a place we have to grow into. Otherwise, it would destroy us.
