Script vs Novel — What Should I Focus On?

Hi everyone.

I have a huge dilemma. I'm in the middle of writing a script, but I’ve lost the motivation to finish it. At the same time, I’m making great progress with my novel. What do you think, should I put the script aside for now and focus on the novel?

Michael Dzurak

Juggling writing projects is a good way to go if you're stuck on one. I've gone to another script after getting stuck on one. Also, one of my sci-fi action scripts started as a novel, but I couldn't get myself to finish it, so I turned it into a script which I found leaner and easier to finish.

Who knows? Maybe the script format is too tight for you, so expand out into a novel. I think it's good to try that. Just keep writing!

Hi, Bartosz Koliński. I would put the script aside and focus on the novel. You might get motivation to finish the script later. I've had that happen with scripts.

Richard "RB" Botto

If you've got momentum in one spot, roll on, Bartosz Koliński. You'll know when the other project comes calling again. But if you can get to the finish line of one of them, that's a goal to celebrate.

Agree with RB. Sounds like the energy is flowing in the direction of the novel. And there is resistance, for now, with the script. I would go where the energy flows.

CJ Walley

Lean into your motivation. Good results tend to stem from the path of least resistance.
