Acting : Hello everyone! by Aaiza Maryam

Hello everyone!

I just watched "Casino" recently, I was blown away by Robert De Niro’s performance. The way he conveys tension and inner conflict even in small gestures reminds me how powerful acting can be beyond dialogue.

I’m curious: what techniques do other actors use to bring that same depth and authenticity to their roles?

Ashley Renée Smith

He’s incredible at letting the tension live in the small details, a look, a pause, a subtle shift in posture. Out of curiosity, was there a specific scene in Casino where his performance really stood out to you, Aaiza Maryam?

Ashley Renée Smith , For me, the ending scenes really stood out especially when Sam Rothstein begins to realize that everything around him is falling apart. The confrontation with his wife was particularly powerful. De Niro conveyed so much tension and frustration through subtle expressions and body language, which made the moment feel very real and intense.

Thank you for sharing this, Langley Coleman I really appreciate it. I’m always interested in learning more about different acting techniques and approaches, so I’ll definitely check out the playlist.

what an awesome point you make Aaiza Maryam about "how powerful acting can be beyond dialogue." And that is because acting is action / behavior toward an objective, which COULD include dialogue, but not necessarily. A whole lot of crafting of the moments and meanings then allows the actor to be free to react and feel in the moment, and what we see is just truthful reaction. Love the way you're catching all those details!

Andrea Cirillo

Wooo I remember that! In Italy this movie was dubbed, and our beloved Gigi Proietti gave his voice to De Niro. It was awesome!

Roberto Micheletti

Hey Aaiza Maryam, one thing that helps me is focusing on what the character is trying not to say.

Because I feel sometimes the most powerful moments come from the tension between what a character feels internally and what they allow themselves to express.

Aaiza Maryam

Roberto Micheletti , That’s a really interesting way to look at it. Focusing on what the character is trying not to say adds so much tension to a scene. I feel like those unspoken emotions are often what make performances feel the most real and powerful.
