Introduce Yourself : 2025 Short Film Winner by Vince Dixon

Vince Dixon

2025 Short Film Winner

Hey everyone! My film 'Sometimes I Imagine Your Funeral' was a winner of 2025's Stage 32 Short Film Contest, and I wanted to share that it debuted on YouTube this past Friday!

It was such a thrill getting to screen at the Chinese Theater as part of HollyShorts thanks to Stage 32, and I loved meeting all the other winners and getting to see such top-notch work up on the big screen.

Sometimes I Imagine Your Funeral is about what it's like to lose someone to an overdose, and it's based on a letter I wrote to my sister Lauren just two weeks before she died of a fentanyl overdose in 2021. Directing such a personal story, and inviting my cast and crew into some of my most traumatic memories was an emotional challenge, but I'm so proud of the result. The film played in around 20 festivals over the last year, and I've been fortunate to do some classroom speaking events with the film and to play it in conjunction with nonprofits as well. We even did a screening at the Health and Human Services department in Washington DC -- wild stuff!

I hope you like the film, and I look forward to any feedback or comments about it! https://youtu.be/46tWoU7_7sc?si=YejCQktYFZsoI06Y

Vince Dixon Congratulations on the win and the release! That’s an incredible journey for the film. It must have taken a lot of courage to turn such a personal and painful experience into a story and share it with audiences. The fact that it screened at festivals and even reached classrooms and nonprofits is truly powerful. Wishing you continued success with the film, and I’m looking forward to watching it.

This is brilliant filmmaking. You filled an edge-of-your seat spiral to inescapable conclusion with compassion love, and overwhelming sorrow, all the while honoring your sister’s humanity. You expertly packed more into a few moments than most features. So inspiring.

FWIW, I have also screened at the Chinese. It’s difficult to put the experience into words, but I know exactly how you feel.

João Pimentel

Parabéns, Ótima direção de Fotografia! O Cenário e o Roteiro ficaram muito bom também!

Tyjon Tom
