Creative World Awards

Hi, all. Excited that my new screenplay THE DEVIL YOU KNOW is now a Finalist in the running for a Creative World Award. Anyone else have experience with this contest?

Richard "RB" Botto

Hey Melody. First off, congratulations. That's quite an achievement. I am also a finalist in the CWA in the action/adventure category. My staff was kind enough to post about it here: http://www.stage32.com/blog/congratulations-rb Brian MacEvilly, another Stage 32'er, is also a finalist.

Melody Cooper

Hi, RB. Nice to keep such good company, and congrats to you as well. Mine is in the Sci Fi/Horror category this year. It was also a Finalist in this year's International Sci Fi/Horror Festival. I was a CWA Finalist in Action in 2010. While I get lots of reads off the festival wins and contest placements, nothing solid yet. Looks like you have a lot of experience with competitions. AFF has to be my favorite.

Philip Sedgwick

Hi Melody, Finalist in shorts this year, semi'd in CWA a few times before. I like them and better than some of other majors. I see that Heather is also working the Richmond Film Festival as well. So I sent a script I have set in Virginia to that. Fest next spring. Good vibes for us all in CWA. May we all win your respective categories! Congrats Melody and Brian.

Ray Helmers

Congrats, Melody. Good luck and much success.

Melody Cooper

Thanks, Ray!

Melody, I made it to Semifinalist round in Creative World Award horror/thriller genre, and another writer I know was runner up in the Action/Adventure a few years back. CWA is solid, but not in the realm of Nichol, Page, Slamdance, or Bluecat IMO.

Melody Cooper

Yeah, I agree re: CWA, Peter. I've made it into to top 10% Nicholl, Semi Finalist for Page and Bluecat, Third Place last year Slamdance. Austin's good too, though I've only made it to 2nd Round a few times. And Tracking B is a bitch to break into, but I've tried that twice (and again this year). I've fared OK in contests, but with an agent, now I'm hungry for the first sale. (Who isn't!?)

Liz Warner

Congratulations!

Melody Cooper

Thanks, Liz! This was an older post re: THE DEVIL YOU KNOW. My more recent script, MONSTROUS, was the one that snagged Third Place at 2014 Slamdance. I've learned to keep writing, move on, keep submitting. What I learned at my first Austin Film Festival is really true. It takes several scripts to get to your best, and even then, you always have to be writing and rewriting!

Liz Warner

Melody, Just back from overseas with tired eyes syndrome. lol. But I meant it--congrats! I agree writing is very much a craft we must continually hone. Best to you in the future!

Melody Cooper

Yes, Jim, 2014. Belated congrats to you too!

Virginia Brucker

Beautiful, Melody! So glad to hear your news!
