Trying to move to LA

Is anyone else trying to move to Los Angeles or has successfully? I want to live down there to help promote my script, but first things first: I need to get a job. Anyone looking for an assistant? I'd like to stick with administrative/receptionist work and for full time or that pays $2,500 a month. Any suggestions on how to make the move would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

I did it. Came out here (to L.A.) with an old VW and $600. No $2,500 a month job lined up - no job lined up at all. I wish you luck!

How long have you been living in LA? Do you make a living as a camera operator?

Antonio Ingram

Yes I strive to get there at well. Not just for my career though; I really want to live there.

I moved here 6 years ago. My first jobs were as a janitor, a bus boy and in an amusement park for a summer - all minimum wage. I spent every other moment looking for camera work. Took me 9 months to get my first gig in a rental house. Now I make my living as a camera operator. I know that if I had gotten a $2,500 a month job I wouldn't have left it for a part time, $800 a month job cleaning up at a rental house. But that's where I made the connections I needed to get work as an operator. It was a struggle. One I'm glad I did.

Consider becoming a member of Women in Film L.A. You don't have to live there to join, but they send out a weekly jobs listing that's very good. I live in MA and belong to them. Well worth the membership in terms of industry info and support.

May I join in??? :)

Personally now with the internet I am not sure you really need to move to LA you can promote online just as well and you probably get more hits online. Join some groups and associations first and then see what happens.
