Americas war of Independence

Would it be bad of me to do a British soldier perspective on the war? I don't like how we are portrayed as completely evil by Hollywood.

Leon Reaper

I wanna write a non-biased movie on the war of independence.

Leon Reaper

Guess some Americans would hate me for that though...

Leon Reaper

Feedback?

Kerry Douglas Dye

I'm sure we can handle an alternate perspective. It has been a few years. If you want to play in the States I'd go easy on casting Americans in general as overly villainous, but other than that, knock yourself out.

Boomer Murrhee

Agree with Kerry. Striking a balance from multiple perspectives could be also be interesting. I would be hopeful that it could be embraced by American audiences.

Boomer Murrhee

Have the antagonist become a hero is intriguing. I love when the lines are blurred.

Leon Reaper

Oh i wont do that haha you guys were fighting against our tyrannical Government which is commendable. I just want to show that the soldiers fighting in the British army were also victims that had to do what they were told plus they also had friends who fought on the other side.

Leon Reaper

i wanna do it as a level playing field. pros and cons on both sides kinda thing

Leon Reaper

well i have already started on it, its called ''traitorous'' where there's this British soldier that after a great battle is rescued by an american family on a farm. They get attacked by a couple of British soldiers and he does whats right and protects the family.

Boomer Murrhee

I like it, please keep S32 posted as to your progress.

Leon Reaper

will do Boomer ^_^

Jan Evans

Write it Leon. I like your concept a lot. I face similar problems writing about the US Indian Wars from the cavalry perspective. There were good and bad situations, and people, on both sides, as there can be in any war. I personally like exploring the grey areas of war, the honor of commitment to one's country and comrades.

Leon Reaper

Thanks Jan, If i did this movie i know there will be some Americans though in uproar saying ''no no he cant do that'' or ''murriicaaa!'' lol

Leon Reaper

IDEA IDEA! how about a love story between a colonist woman and a british soldier too?

Jan Evans

Lol Probably, but don't let that put you off. My ancestors fought in the American Revolution, and I love your story idea! The trick is to make us care about your Brit, and understand his dilemma. It's a very real situation that certainly happened. Like our Civil War, brothers fought brothers, sons fought fathers.

Leon Reaper

I agree, many ideas come to mind.I mean Irish colonists were fighting Irish soldiers in the British Army, Colonists of scottish descent were fighting scots in the British army. etc etc

Chris Tipton

Let the love birds fall in love but maybe they don't live together in the end.

Leon Reaper

That would make the loss of life in that war become real to the audiences I reckon

Leon Reaper

instead of the invincible protagonists hollywood dishes out.

Kerry Douglas Dye

Love the concept. You have this Merkin's permission to proceed.

Chris Tipton

that's right, some examples again there is nothing new that hasn't already been done, just a different dressing on it. like brave heart, Mel didn't get to keep the girl and live happily ever,
