UNACCOMPANIED MINOR
By Kitania Kavey

GENRE: Action, Drama
LOGLINE:

A man accidentally uncovers a pedophilia ring and goes on the run with a young sex worker in order to save her life. Inspired by a true story.

SYNOPSIS:

An average, everyday guy, Rob works as a Passenger Assistant, transferring travelers through a large and busy European airport. He is unremarkable; goes through the motions of work, is quietly polite, carries his emotions on the inside. He's divorced, the father of two children who live with the ex. The breakup was bad, not seeing his children anymore is worse. He lives alone in a small apartment.

He becomes suspicious that something is going on in the airport when he picks up an unaccompanied minor who appears to have been drugged. She has a flat affect, hardly reacts to anything around her as Rob guides her through customs and the airport.

Although it is mid-winter and snowing, the petite girl has no luggage, and no winter clothing. Her “sister” meets them at arrivals, and the two couldn't look more dissimilar. Nor do they appear to be friends, let alone family. But the name on the transport papers matches the name on the I.D. Rob is shown, so he releases the girl and resumes his business.

Rob learns from the newspaper that the young girl he transported has been found dead, drowned in a canal. He immediately contacts the police and his boss, and is thanked for giving his story, but no one seems interested in doing anything; finding out who the girl was, or how she had come to such an end. Not unusual, considering she was a foreigner without a residency permit.

Rob minds his own business until one of his transports, another young girl, confesses to him that she believes her life is in danger. Arriving unaccompanied on a plane, she claims she’s to be transferred to a local pedophilia ring. Rob is able to get her safely out of the airport, but his attempts to get her assistance from the police and other local social organizations, fails.

It's not as simple as he imagined – you don't just find a child in distress and drop her off at the local shelter; there must be official paperwork, immigration and parents or legal guardians notified, corroborating evidence. The girl is adamant that she must not be returned 'home' as it was her own parents who sold her into prostitution. And now the criminal ring wants their property back.

Rob can choose to do nothing and move on quietly with his life, or risk everything to save a child he barely knows. His guilt over his inability to help the children, and frustration with the lack of interest in children being trafficked propels him to try to rescue the girl, get her away from the pedophilia ring, out of the country and to safety in America.
