PRINCE FOR A DAY
By Todd A McGee

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A devoted nurse with an aversion to famous men learns a patient with amnesia is a missing European prince. As she helps restore his memory, nagging doubts about his identity grow, especially when the Prince’s ex-girlfriend, a publicity-seeking actor, creates a media frenzy that engulfs the Maine town and lands the nurse on the front page of every tabloid on two continents.

SYNOPSIS:

After a serious car accident, a man is brought to a rural Maine hospital in a coma. His car and everything in it, including his ID, was burned to a crisp. An earnest nurse, MARY GRIFFIN, works to bring JOHN DOE out of his coma while the Sheriff's Department attempts to uncover his identity.

When the man awakens three days later, he suffers from post-traumatic amnesia and can offer no clues to who he is or why he is in Maine. Mary takes John outside the hospital for some fresh air and exercise and they visit the town's Blueberry Festival. A vendor believes John looks like a celebrity and takes a photo of him to show to her granddaughter, who might recognize the man.

REBECCA LOWE, a glamorous but struggling American actor, sees a social media post about the mystery man and identifies him as her ex-boyfriend, PRINCE PHILLIPE, heir apparent to the throne of Ruritania. The Prince had abruptly called off his wedding two weeks earlier and has not been seen in public since.

Seeking to resurrect her career, she bolts to his side to take advantage of the ensuing international media frenzy.

Mary is dubious the man really is the Prince, but with the town swept up by Royal mania and fans and reporters camped outside the hospital, she casts aside her doubts and focuses on his recovery.

Rebecca is not the only person seeking to take advantage of the Prince's unexpected arrival. Wanting to boost his Congressional bid, the town's mayor arranges a special ceremony to present the Prince with a Key to the City. With Royal fever sweeping New England, the mayor knows every television station in the state will cover the event, but the doctor overseeing his care believes the turmoil would cause a setback and refuses.

Not wanting to lose the exposure such an event would generate, Rebecca sneaks the Prince out of the hospital and takes him to the ceremony, avoiding a horde of well-wishers who spot the Prince in the car and swarm after him.

Seeing the Prince used for a publicity stunt, a representative from the Crown, SIR RONALD HOPEWELL, demands the hospital fire Mary and return the Prince to the Kingdom at once. Since the incident has turned into an international embarrassment that has drawn the attention of the White House, the hospital agrees and terminates Mary immediately.

Rebecca confesses to her agent that the man is not Prince Philippe. Mortified, her agent demands Rebecca hold a news conference immediately and come clean. Before Rebecca can confess, the real PRINCE PHILIPPE interrupts the news conference and declares his love for her.

With an international crisis averted, the hospital rescinds its firing of Mary and assigns her back to caring for John Doe. When John's memory returns the next day, he does not recall any of the events since he awakened from his coma, including Mary's care and compassion. Mary, who has fallen for the man, is dejected and takes a much-needed vacation.

When John Doe, who turns out to be MICHAEL HAMILTON from upstate New York, is discharged the following day, his memories of Mary return. Deputy JAMIE STILES gives Michael a lift to the bus station for a ride home and stops in a local diner on the way. Michael spots Mary sitting at the counter, and they confess their mutual interest in each other, ending with a kiss.
