I didn’t pay anything like that. A few hundred dollars, if I remember correctly, but still, you pay for something and you expect to receive what you pay for. I hope no one else on here has gone through that. Just be warned not to trust them.
AVOID at all costs - or it will cost you :)
I've had many come to me to pick if the pieces of the disasters they create, and they lost thousands with no recourse. One gal lost over $10,000 and what they gave her was absolute garbage.

When will Stage 32 start their own internal crowdfunding platform? We have producers, directors, creatives, actors, crew, marketing and everyone in between. In 2021 there were 800,000 members, so today, close to 1 million members. Would a "Stage 32 Crowdfunding" platform benefit the Stage 32 Community? I think so.

Ashley Renee Smith I'm sure it is. Seed&Spark seem to be generating lots of interest.
I just recently began pitching, practice pitching to a variety of people, producers, Lit. Managers Etc.. One mentor suggested putting in all of my credential in order to sell myself and my experience. Another mentor said you dont need all of that and to focus on the concept more. Any thoughts, ideas or funny stories?
Thank you everyone, this is all incredibly helpful. The last pitch and query I did, I streamlined the important stuff and it worked so yay !!!!!

I’m lost and need some advice with getting my work out there and promoting myself whether it’s on social media or anything that works best.

I've said it often, but even having created this platform, I am still scratching and clawing like everyone else to get my work out there. That will never stop no matter how successful you are. That's why I dedicate an hour toward networking on this platform every day and have for 13 years.
3 things you can do:
1 - Post material (articles, blogs, videos) you found interesting. I'm sure you're always looking to improve your craft or learn more about the business. Post the things that caught your attention.
2 - Get involved with other people's posts. Don't be a lurker, be a collaborator.
3 - Get involved with Introduce Yourself posts. Just head over to that Lounge and meet new and interesting people to the platform.
I could list 50 others, but you get the point. Get yourself out there, embrace the long game and let things happen organically.

Around the same time, a guy on YouTube was sharing his earnings after he had a video go viral and get a very similar number of views. The YouTube earnings where 10x higher before anybody got a cut. Pretty shocking. It's a catch-22 though, because you have to try and get those views in the first place and can't rely on the luck of the algorithm. Plus, YouTube can just demonetise and/or deplatform you at will. I had Amazon Studios do that do me (back when their website existed) and it's heartbreaking to just have all your hard work deleted one day.
Being a content creator's its own creative strategy requiring its own time allotment. It can devour time that would be normally spent on being a writer.

I’m a movie junkie (test me with trivia!), and in the past have written and directed short films, managed cast and crew, cooked for presidents, kicked printers into submission and saved the universe on more than one occasion. But who’s counting?

Expand postI wrote this in response to another post - but I think it's an important enough topic to warrant its own post, so I am repeating it here: This post really stirs the pot - doesn't it? Most of us are on one side of the fence or the other regarding AI. Even though I am also an engineer - I am firmly against AI for any creative endeavors. So much so, when I found out the graphic artist I hired used AI for the first book in my fantasy trilogy, I hired a different graphic artist to redo the cover with no AI. My graphic design costs doubled, but I felt it important to stand for my beliefs. None of my work (book covers for my books, my manuscripts, and audio books) will utilize AI in its creation. Amazon is offering to select authors an AI-driven opportunity for free Audible creation. I spent $1500 on my Audible by hiring voice talent for my science fiction novel, so I can tell you how tempting that was - but I said no thanks.
I get it - AI allows us to do some things we may not be able to afford otherwise - but for me (and I was recently laid off, so my budget is always a priority), I have to say no to AI. I will wait for an audio book for my fantasy book for if/when I can afford it. As a creative - I challenge all of us to reject anything AI driven. We need to do the hard work and collaborate with one another - not allow a computer algorithm to take the place of our humanity and our creative souls. I have worked in IT, and I can tell you with certainty that they are proceeding ahead with AI solutions because it is trending and bringing in the money - but no one understands the ethical consequences that will result from this irresponsible behavior.
The CEO of the Authors Guild, Mary Rasenberger, was recently published in the LA Times and writes, “We cannot trust tech companies that swear their innovations are so important that they do not need to pay for one of the main ingredients — other people’s creative works. The “better future” we are being sold by OpenAI and others is, in fact, a dystopia. It’s time for creative professionals to stand together, demand what we are owed, and determine our own futures.”
If you haven't thought about the ramifications of AI on the creativity community, I hope you will do so. All of our futures depend on being in solidarity with one another as we strive to provide what only we can uniquely produce as artists/creatives - to a world in desperate need of entertainment (film, books, art, music) that can provide a welcome distraction from these troubling times.

Before I started the outline, I spent some time researching various outlining methods to decide how I wanted to approach the outline for this particular project and how in-depth I wanted to get before I began writing. While looking around, I found this wonderful video by author Sarra Cannon, where she's breaking down not just her outlining method, but the various tools that she uses to keep it all organized. Ultimately, I decided to go with a more detailed chapter-by-chapter outline, but Sarra's method REALLY helped me get started.
Check it out and let me know your thoughts! Do you like her method? Are there any methods you've used successfully or haven't worked for you in the past? I'd love to hear what your tips and tricks are!

Expand commentAshley Renee Smith First of all - congratulations on writing a fantasy novel! It is no easy task! I am almost done with book two of my fantasy trilogy and it has been quite a journey. In the writing world - we usually have plotters (those who outline) and pansters (those who sit down and write what pours out of them, without prior structure). For me, I am a panster. My motivation for getting in front of the keyboard is that I can't wait to find out what happens next :) Of course, my books go through at least 2-3 revisions, but I find that method works for me. Having studied my craft for years, I am delighted that a 3-Act structure with proper beats usually naturally unfolds. I think about my current scene and let it roll around in my head the possibilities for the next one, and it just pours out when I start typing :) The great thing about being a writer is that we can find out what works for us personally. That said, I am currently considering adapting my science fiction novel to a screen play - but I could not imagine attempting a screen play without an outline. I think it depends on the artist and the medium as to what works best :)

This is actually the first time that I've attempted this detailed and complete of an outline. Being that the world is so complex, I wanted to challenge myself to really think it through before starting so that I don't hit a wall later. it's new for me, but it's been rewarding in a different way so far.

Expand commentCopyright applications must disclose whether the application includes AI-generated material and the extent of its use. However, a writer could modify material originally generated by AI to such a degree that it meets the standard for protection. It will be difficult to distinguish if a writer has used Plotdot and Nolan AI in their screenwriting process. This would be applicable for entering screenwriting contests as well. Since this is a community of film makers and like mined artists it would make sense to finance projects with out having to crowdfund from outside sources. I absolutely Love every thought and every word that everyone has posted here. Dang, too bad I missed the off-topic and disrespectful comments Craig Urquhart and E Langley got into, though. ;) This ongoing discussion-slash-debate is massively interesting -- I hope it continues, because Grok, GPT, and who knows which others are, as Craig said, moving at the speed of light -- in SOME direction. I think what that direction is might be one of the main questions. How truly useful and in what contexts these AI creatures expose their personal brilliance and enlightened nature (haa) over time will be fun to watch. Possibly painful, too.
