SYNOPSIS:
Anna Swanson is days away from marrying William Barrett. It's a logical choice, and William checks all the boxes. But what if it's not about boxes?
She's given a vintage silk purse (something old) as a wedding gift by her best friend, Caroline, and discovers within its lining a letter from a mysterious older woman with the same initials.
Haunted by the letter, Anna decides to track down its author, taking her to a quaint hotel and its owner, Jason Dixon. Anna and Jason soon become drawn to each other as well as a trove of letters Jason uncovers in the attic written by the mysterious older woman.
While Anna becomes increasingly torn between the logical choice, William, and her inexplicable attraction to Jason, she seeks counsel from her mother, Ruth, an aging flower child with a penchant for the occult.
Jason and Anna discover that the older woman, Alice, and the hotel's then owner, Jason's grandfather, Walter, both in their 80s, had fallen in love and were corresponding with one another.
Alice had regrets that she had lived an ordinary life and never pursued her desire to be a writer and live in France, but after being encouraged by Walter, had decided to follow her heart.
Meanwhile, as Anna increasingly follows hers, William insists she make a choice.
Overwhelmed by the stress of having to choose between the two men, Anna crashes her car and ends up in a coma. Meanwhile years earlier, Walter dies before reuniting with Alice.
In the end, Jason's heartfelt approach provides the emotional magic able to rescue Anna, and they fall more deeply in love, publish Alice's letters in a collection entitled "Someone New, Someone Old," and deliver a copy to her grave in France.
