An emotionally lost, thirty something woman goes through IVF with her husband, loses her job and moves back in with her parents to cover their fertility costs, but after she miscarries, her depression leads her to fight back by joining an amateur boxing tournament and finds herself developing feelings for her female coach.
SYNOPSIS:
Jess (mid- thirties, half Korean) undergoes fertility treatments (IVF) and befriends a nurse, Emma (late twenties) who also owns a boxing gym. Jess gets pregnant from IVF. Jess and her husband Noah’s (mid 30's) excitement change to worry as Jess is laid off from her job and the holiday bonus Noah was counting on from his job, to cover the IVF costs are not happening. Noah and Jess brainstorm that they will sell their home and bank the equity. Jess’s parents, Lisa (Korean, early seventies) and John (Proud Irishman, mid seventies) offer that they move in with them until they can get back on their feet after the baby is born.
At the next doctor’s appointment, they are given the heartbreaking news that they have lost the pregnancy. At John and Lisa's house, Noah and Jess find it hard to adjust to living with them. Noah struggles to work remotely on his Zoom calls with the television turned to the highest volume and the cat, Mr. Pants keeps chewing on his laptop chords. Jess reaches out to Emma to have someone to talk to. Emma suggests Jess sign up for an amateur boxing match. Jess and Emma grow close establishing a new friendship.
John and Lisa try to connect with Jess in their own way, but Jess begins to push them and Noah away while connecting more with Emma. She soon has a fall out with Emma and now feels more alone and confused than ever. At the next doctor’s appointment, Jess learns that her chances of ever getting pregnant again are close to zero.
Jess decides to give up on the boxing tournament. John talks to her and surprises her by telling her that he and her mom had the same trouble with getting pregnant and had almost given up. When she tells him she’s not participating in the boxing match, he tells her she needs to get out there and do it. Jess fights in the match where she loses. When she comes to, Emma, her parents and Noah stand over her, supporting her.
Everything’s Fine is a story about letting go and finding strength within oneself. This quirky comedy drama tells the story about the losses and not the wins, for it's sometimes the losses that bring out our greatest strengths and reveals what is truly important.
