THE HAUNTED UNIT

LOGLINE:

In the retro-futuristic year of 1868, a dysfunctional unit of robot bounty hunters crosses nuclear wastelands, questioning their own existence as they turn against the creator who built them to be disposable.

SYNOPSIS:

Wonder-City, a retro steampunk-esque city caught in between old (future) tech and 1800’s industrial aesthetics. The city divides into 4 wards, each one representing progressive statures such as science quarter, workers’ union, philanthropy, and law. Wonder-City is on the brink of a new industrial revolution.

One worker steals some secrets and hides them inside a briefcase from the science ward. He tries to sneak away through the workers’ union ward. However, he was chased by, thwarted, and then executed by THE HAUNTED UNIT. Five distinctly different robot bounty hunters, DIRGE, ANGUISH, NERO, SHRAPNEL, and BLUDGEON, are haphazardly forced to work together to please their creator and carry out successful missions. Their execution brought unwanted attention from Wonder-City’s officers. The Haunted Unit grabs the briefcase and makes their escape.

The Haunted Unit retreats to their hideout. They convene to check on the briefcase… but it was empty. The worker hid the secrets on his body through invisible ink. This, in turn, draws the ire of their creator, who issues a stern warning to their leader: the next mission must be a success or else they risk being deactivated.

Their next mission brings them to a party, celebrating the crowning of the Primarch (leader) of Wonder-City, with the Wardens of all four wards in attendance. Their goal is to sneak inside the Primarch’s vault and steal nuclear codes. The Haunted Unit successfully infiltrates the party, and Nero hacks into the vault.

An assassin from the shadows kills the Primarch and pins the blame on Shrapnel. The Haunted Unit is exposed, with a massive fight breaking out among the party members. Shrapnel gets blown out from the party and into a moving train towards the nuclear wastelands. Nero finally hacks into the vault, grabs the codes, and assists the Haunted Unit in escaping from the Wardens and Wonder-City officers.

The Haunted Unit abandons its goal from their creator to find Shrapnel. Meanwhile, Shrapnel discovers and flees from a mysterious, alien-like predator.

This is a different script than others I've worked because I made this in collaboration with my life-long friend. He had this idea of a chaotic group of bounty hunters in an alternative timeline of Earth, a retro-futuristic setting (original trilogy Star Wars and Star Trek), with the theme of found-family. I still have much to improve on and your ratings help me to learn whether it resonates with readers or I still have improvements to make.
