THE LADY FROM BOHEMIA
By Walid El Khoury

GENRE: Romance
LOGLINE:

Born enslaved but raised in splendor and promised to nobility, Delicia seeks her true self in 1740 Bohemia. United with Sir Tristan, they defy societal norms in a perilous adventure, where they must navigate war, love, freedom, and justice to overcome the shadows of their pasts.

SYNOPSIS:

In 1718 Prague, Bohemia, a slave ship bound for the Caribbean from Sierra Leone encounters a fierce storm, compelling it to seek sanctuary in Amsterdam. Amidst the turmoil, Amari, a young slave, pregnant as a result of being raped by a white guard, braves the tempest to bring a baby girl into the world, etching her tribal mark onto the child's shoulder before persuading a sailor to deliver her to a family in Amsterdam.

The infant finds refuge with a wealthy, childless couple in their 50s. They christen her Delicia and relocate to Prague for a more tolerant atmosphere. Despite her harrowing beginnings, Delicia flourishes into a woman of extraordinary intellect, beauty, and talent, excelling in history, art, and politics. Against the backdrop of societal expectations, she becomes an esteemed art expert and secures a teaching position at Prague's prestigious university, predominantly attended by nobility.

Enveloped in a fervent romance, Delicia captures the heart of Lord Tristan, a dashing and affluent young aristocrat, much to the chagrin of his conservative family. However, tragedy strikes on their wedding day when Delicia is abducted and sold into slavery, destined for America.

Tristan, thrust into the Bohemian secession war, distinguishes himself with ingenuity, leading a valiant defense against a formidable Prussian army. Meanwhile, Delicia finds herself on St. Thomas island, grappling with her identity and yearning for reunion with Tristan and her lost heritage.

As Tristan tirelessly searches for Delicia, she faces a daunting choice between embracing her privileged past or embarking on a quest to uncover her roots, including her birth mother among fellow slaves. With time slipping away, Delicia's anguish mirrors her inner conflict: "I cannot grasp my past while my future eludes me."

As the war draws to a close, Tristan's determination to find Delicia remains steadfast, setting the stage for a poignant tale of love, resilience, and the pursuit of identity amidst the chaos of historical upheaval.
