In postwar London, widow Rose Lawert is struggling to hold together a cold, rationed home, and the honourable version of her husband’s death. When Canadian captain Christopher Palmer is billeted under her roof, she sees him as one more burden. But Christopher recognises Rose as the woman he pulled from the rubble in 1944, and his work at Canadian Military Headquarters leads him to evidence that her late husband may have betrayed his unit. As suspicion gives way to intimacy, Christopher must decide whether to protect the life Rose has rebuilt or tell her the truth and risk losing her.
