About Gordon

Gordon Yu was born in Hong Kong and raised in New York City. Due to his fascination with cinema at a young age, he was determined to become a successful filmmaker. In 2005, Gordon was admitted to the Brooklyn College film program where he eventually received his Bachelor of Art in Film Production, with a focus on Cinematography. He started his career as a lighting technician and camera assistant, and his versatile background and knowledge in filmmaking helped him make the transition in becoming an in-demand Director of Photography.

Gordon has already established outstanding credibility in commercials, music videos, and independent films. He has shot a number of commercials for clients include Time Warner Cable, Hyundai, Foursquare, and more. His talents and unique style bring a refreshing approach to visual storytelling. Gordon was nominated for Best Cinematography for his work "Here, Too" at the Chinese Film Festival and “Jack Attack” at the Terror Film Festival, respectively. In 2012, the short film “Home”, where Gordon also served as Director of Photography, won both Best Fiction at the CUNY Asian American Film Festival and The Ledo Matteroli Award for Best Immigrant Story at the 45th Humboldt Film Festival. In addition, the short film Mama’s Heart was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography at the 25th Annual Brooklyn College Film Festival.

Although Gordon travels primarily between the United States and China, he has had the honor to work with directors around the world. Gordon hopes to further advance his career as a committed Director of Photography by meeting and collaborating with other passionate filmmakers, and sequentially, assists them in bringing their unique visions to life.
