About Jose

I am a Los Angeles based screenwriter in search of an agent/manager. I have written several screenplays. Originally from East Los Angeles, I am a graduate of Garfield High School and a former student of Jaime Escalante, the math teacher the movie "Stand And Deliver" is based on. It was Mr. Escalante's dedication to teaching math to high school students in East L.A. that inspired me to pursue a career as a screenwriter. I'm also a member of SAG/AFTRA and was with the Daniel Hoff Agency (commercial agent). I am also a graduate of East Los Angeles Junior College (AA degree) and California State University Los Angeles (B.A. Degree).

Most of my screenplays are character driven stories that depict individuals trying to overcome life's obstacles. One underlying theme in my scripts is loneliness and the need for human companionship and love. I have written screenplays with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez in mind. Some of m material deals with Hispanic themes and takes place In East L.A.

I directed one of my screenplays a couple of years ago just to go through the process of filmmaking and have a video on YouTube (josevelasquez310) entitled "Jose Velasquez Director Reel".. It's the trailer for the script "Phantom Murder." This project would make a great T.V. series. It has key elements of "The Rockford Files" and "Magnum P.I." My script is actually a male version of "Murder She Wrote".

I have also written poetry which sometimes gets picked up as song lyrics. My influences in poetry writing are the musical groups "The Doors" and "The Moody Blues".
