Hello Scott, if you need voice over, I'm in Atlanta (okay, downtown Decatur, actually). My info and demos are at http://lanceblairvo.com

What are your feelings directors, producers, writers, actors, cinematographers, and editors on this statement from Ford. I feel that in some ways Ford is insisting that the final product, the film itself, is what should be judged since a script (again, these are my thoughts on the director's approach) is a blueprint for the finished work. Of course, one can see the potential of a film through the screenplay, but the pages still are simply working out the foundation for the film. It would be interesting to hear different viewpoints on this, from an actor's point of view to that of an editor and so on. So what are your thoughts Stage32ers?
Let's see Mr Ford make a good movie without a script at all good bad or otherwise.
"Eighty percent of a picture is writing, the other twenty percent is the execution, such as having the camera on the right spot and being able to afford to have good actors in all parts." - director Billy Wilder.
BOOM! Bill Martell. Dropping bombs!. LOL.
As an aspiring voice actor, I was wondering if it would be acceptable practice to write and score my own commercials for the purpose of a demo reel. Does it matter that the commercial is not genuine? Hell! I may end up making an ad for a non-existent product that people want to buy! Any thoughts welcome.
I think you should listen to a few spots, most advertising has a central theme, look at the 15 second cheerio's spots of late, they are silent, simple, and all have a family tone. Most advertising tries to tell you how to feel....if you develop a reel along those lines it will be heard
It's better to make up spots than to copy well known copy of well known products. Also, the script doesn't need to mention a product at all. Like Korey says, advertising is about making people feel so...

Like Korey says, advertising is about making people feel something. So, there should be no selling of the product, but a whole lot of showing how you as a voice actor can make the listener feel something. You've got just one minute with your demo - what is being sold is you!
you have to get clips somehow. also look at your local college for student projects that need talent and work for free on some non-commercial projects for sake of clips. Those connections you make in the industry can also be helpful later in letting you know about gigs

Hey Lance, a few days ago we implemented a new privacy setting to give you the option of accepting private messages only from users within your network. Today, I discovered a bug with the way this option is set for new users. I just wanted to let you know that the bug is now fixed, so all members are now able to receive private messages from any other member (the default setting). If you'd like to receive private messages only from users within your network, you can change this setting here. I think Mason Adams was one of the best. I can still hear him say, "With a name like Smuckers......"
