Excellent column. That's the only way to become successful in this crazy business.
Very good. I did not book Nebraska till after I did tons of student films. I might add that it is important to stay healthy so you stay alive. You can't book if you're dead.
I think by ACTING we stay healthy.
Just dropping a line to introduce myself. Hi all. Perth based Actor, Director and Photographer. Also a part of Herding Cats Productions here in Perth. Theatre, Film and TV experience. Glad to be here.
I have a Shakespeare idea, but this mightn't be the time.
Nice to meet you Jeff. Great to meet another Shakespearean Aussie.
Hi, I just had some Aussies staying in my house before their singing gig. Check out DerynWarren.com and see if you get some tips for your career. Read a chapter of How to Make Your Audience Fall in Love With You.

I am currently searching for the right producer to help work with a small collective of incredibly talented filmmakers to create something truly unforgettable. We're currently preparing a science-fiction horror rooted in the atrocious realities presently existing in our society entitled "Inhumane". The film is about a working housewife who is trapped in a turbulent marriage and awakens inside of an unearthly prison. Confronted by brutal savagery, she is forced to endure and survive the horrifying nightmare if she is ever to be reunited with her son. If you're interested in the project (or just think alike), please feel free to send me a message. Thanks and be sure to check out our short film ElseWhere and let me know what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8o4KIeiylo
As an actor, I would love to be part of a project. I bring a lot to the table. www.jamesmapesactor.com & wwwjamesmapesactor.com. Have miles. Will travel.
Thanks. I can use all the help (money) I can get.

I was in the film Nebraska playing the newspaper editor, Peg Nagy, and at present I am playing a recurring role as a patient in the HBO show Getting On. Have to be on set tomorrow (Monday) early to shoot the second episode of the second season. It is a very funny comedy. Don't know when it will start airing. I just translated (Spanish to English) a book of essays on fashion by Carlota Caulfield, and a poetry collection by Liliana Valenzuela, both under consideration for publication. I am a member of Film Independent, Women in Film, American Translators Assn. and American Literary Translators.
Hello Angela - we are glad to have you here. Indeed, this community is very diverse, and really awesome. I actually saw the first season of Getting On, but that was months ago - I'm ready for the next one. :) Cheers!
Congrats. Who knew a can of paint could have so much personality.
Pleasure
Hello Angela, nice to meet you, thank you for connecting and wishing you all the best in all your present and future projects. Perhaps we can meet someday for lunch or dinner in the near future when I get back to Burbank, cause you are in North Hollywood right? So, let us keep in touch. Cheers! Maggie G.
There is a restaurant on Magnolia called Spumante. Exceent food & service. Maybe we can meet for lunch.

Hi Bryan. Glad to hear someone in the UK is following his dreams as I have been fortunate to do in the US. Made it into Alexander Payne's Nebraska (as Peg Nagy) & loved every minute, so onward & upward for all us dreamers!
You should never stop dreaming. I know I won't!

I've shot 23 features including 2nd unit work on "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead." I shot Bjork's first feature, "The Juniper Tree" in Iceland. It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. One of my career highlights was filming the Dalai Lama for several days when he received the Congressional Medal of Honor. When you are near him, you can literally feel energy - almost like static electricity. I love any type of job that offers creative challenges. Budgets don't matter much to me - it's the concept, the writing, and the other creative collaborators. I also love teaching and mentoring emerging filmmakers. I have taught many classes and workshops for many years. I'm currently working on a course that teaches beginning filmmakers how to break into the industry and get freelance jobs - as well as strategize and work toward their dream job. Here is a trailer that I directed recently that I'm proud of: http://bit.ly/1lKkwSq Here is a very cinematic commercial that I recently shot: https://vimeo.com/89851203

Expand commentThanks for your kind comments everyone. Amy and Neva, I'm so glad that you had the chance to see and meet the Dalai Lama. He is truly an inspiring teacher. I had a funny incident when the Dalai Lama first arrived at the hotel. I was trying to find a suitable position to film his arrival. I yelled at the director, "I think I can shoot the Dalai Lama from over here!" Next thing I know, a man in a dark suit, sunglasses, and an earbud is bearing down on me. "Oh shit." I quickly pulled my camera out of the bag and declared, "I mean photograph! I'm going to PHOTOGRAPH the Dalai Lama!" Lesson learned. Fortunately, I did not end up cuffed in the black van with tinted windows.
Julie, thanks for reaching out. I sent an email to Amanda Toney about possibly guest blogging.
Very impressive.... don't it just leave you wanting MORE!

Expand commentMatthew, thank you for posting about the Fincannons and the option to send larger files. I was still thinking everyone wanted smaller. Good to know. However, how does one send those huge files? Is there any free file transfer program that would allow for sending very large video files or is that something an actor must pay for? I know I couldn't send my last one via transferbigfiles.com due to size, unless I upgraded to paid version... You may not know the answer but thinking someone on the forum might weigh in. Thanks again for great posts and information.

I use a Sony HD. I think it works great as far as quality but the problem I have, not having a studio, is lighting.
