Mr. Cool! I took your 2 Day Film School about 20 years ago in LA. I sat next to Jonathan Frakes. Never too late to use your info, as I just made a trailer for my new film.

Kate, you are the rockin' best! What a great review. Thank you so much. I'm really happy you liked it, because I think you're a great writer. I know, don't ya love all the mutual smooching? haha! Peeps, go read Kate's books!
Lol. I really enjoyed it from page 1. And I'm pretty tough when I'm reviewing, so....
I'm probably missing this somehow, but what are the karma points, what do they mean, what do they do, and how do you acquire them? Nothing I do or participate in on here seems to have any effect.
Hmmm. Overwhelmed with response.
Looking for people who are interested in getting together and developing an Indie horror movie, not so much a slasher movie, I think those are not as popular as they once were but straight ghost story....
Hi Chris, where will it be based. Have you got crew for it.UK based here, sounds like a great project.

Expand commentChris, we're in pre-production with most of the crew in place and now casting. I think you're on the right track about coming up with a unique story first. That's exactly what I did by writing a script that will appeal to both Eastern and Western audiences. From that, we'll make a high value production from a relatively low budget. You can check what'we're doing here: www.facebook.com/nightkill.movie
I liked the facebook page, should be a great movie
Ha! I created a Sci-Fi fashion show sponsored by the opening of Flash Gordon at Tramps Discotheque in Washington, DC, back in the early 80s. The best in cheese! Nice to know there still creatively warped brains out there.
Thanks, Stuart, glad to jog your memory! All the best, Spike.

It's a crossover Thai ghost story with all Thai actors and an international crew from six countries so far. It's not a slasher movie, or a one location movie, but a supernatural thriller. What I mean about being a crossover film is that although it's a Thai ghost story in essence, it's written with a Western structure and story sensibilities that will appeal to multiple cultures. We're in the casting stage now. Next we'll be making the trailer to use for a crowdfunding campaign to shoot the entire feature. We're still looking for some key crew if anyone wants a working vacation in Thailand: SFX makeup; visual FX. This is a chance for a visual FX person to go all out creating something they design within the parameters of what we need for a truly scary ghost transformation. For the trailer, we'll need one or two super transformation effects. We can pay something, but not standard rates. Better rates would come later with the crowdfunding. Naturally, the visual FX person doesn't need to come here. For casting, We're still auditioning for the two main leads, male and female in early twenties. Must be Thai or half-Thai, but look Thai, and speak fluent Thai with no foreign accent. The female role carries the entire film, so this is a break-out role. Hey Stuart, Make sure you post in the JOBS section. You'll get a much better response there :)

Expand postWhat makes a good director... this is where I start: The director is the Captain of the ship. They need a strong ability to visualize and a strong solid overall vision for a project, project management, personnel management, leadership, the ability to explain their vision properly to others, the ability to listen, a strong understanding of all the areas and disciplines required to bring their vision through to delivery, knowing that something can or can't be done within the time & finances allocated... A good director needs to be a good story teller. A good Director needs to know when an actor's performance has peaked and when to stop pushing, or when to step in and pull that last bit from the actor. A good Director has to know when to just sit back and let the actors run with it while knowing when to reign them in again. A good Director knows how to make an actor comfortable enough to step out of their comfort zone in order to get the best from them. Actors need to trust the director. If an actor cannot trust a director, they won't deliver a quality performance.. Directing is more than just calling action. Directing is a very difficult job. It starts the minute the project starts and ends after Delivery. A good director needs to be able to edit a script, understand music and its impact on a scene. know when to add the right sound effect to build an emotional moment. A good director needs to understand the emotion and technical impart of a given camera angle and movement. They need to understand editorial pacing and how it will impact and affect the story. A good Director cannot do everything... they need to know when to delegate to trusted crew and cast, to let the team have the space they need to create as well, while assuring it all fits into the final project.
I would say a vision for the film that they see in their head plus knowledge of every aspect of filmmaking including cinematography, screenwriting, acting, post-production and film history. also a fondness for baseball caps and a generally shit sense of style seems to help

In the days a Director arrived on a brilliantly lit set at 6:00am and left sometime after 6:00pm; many of the lights were carbon arc – very bright. The hat was worn in defense of going blind – now it’s just a traditional symbol.

Thanks for connecting, Raymond. Quite impressive life you're leading. I can relate in the smallest way having been a beat officer on the Washington DC Police back in '69-'70. No gangs then, just normal robbery, murder, domestic, and then all the anti-war demonstrations that came to town. Best to you in your author's life.

Expand postI am an American living in Mexico (San Miguel de Allende), author of 'Older Man Younger Man,' 'God On Your Own,' 'The Way of the Traveler,' and other books. I founded the film school at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design in 1987 with the help of actress Greer Garson, who gave us $3.3 million to build an academic facility attached to two rent-out sound stages -- my students went to classes on one side of the building and worked on films at the studios (in the early days: City Slickers, Wyatt Earp - more recently 'Longmire,' 'Manhattan,' etc.). I've returned to my first love, writing screenplays. The first, just finished, is 'The Mayor Falls in Love' -- the true story of J.W. Lown, the closeted mayor of ultra-conservative San Angelo, TX, who was re-elected to a 4th term with 90% of the vote, but did not show up for his swearing-in...he fled in the night to Mexico with his lover, an 'undocumented' 20-year-old male student. It's an upbeat romance with twists around some serious 'today' issues, especially immigration law , same-sex marriage, and gays in politics. I'm new to Stage 32 -- looking for friends, contacts, connections, looking mostly to find agents/producers/anyone else in the business who will read the screenplay. Thanks, Stage 32, for this great opportunity. J.
Thanks a million, Jack! I appreciate your comment. Looking forward to your posts. J.

I'm interested in how your new screenplay does. because I wrote two scripts with gay characters, and even though one won 2nd place in the One In Ten screenplay contest, and is a contemporary thriller, no one would take a chance on producing it. My other script is very contemporary with a gay woman running for president. We'll see who has the gonads to go with that one. lol.
