ORBITING EZMERELDA

LOGLINE: After throwing together brutal economics that has no conscience, the world’s richest man & his daughter with a dissolving marriage while an artist 'kills himself', the next step for the childless yet maternally obsessed art-curator protagonist will be alternative insemination.

SYNOPSIS:

Tinged by the absurd, framed by the New York art world and financial collapse, 'Orbiting Ezmerelda' explores a dissolving marriage. A beautiful and respected art curator of 37 craves a child. Her art collector husband is successful real estate developer. Peter, a talented young painter, is out with Ezmerelda (Ezzie), the curator and Matt, the developer. In the wake of Egon Pantovicz's suicide at an auction of his work attended by the trio, they debate value. The suicide had propelled the price of his scorned work on auction to the stratosphere. Matt and Ezzie disagree on something else, having children. To Matt, how will this 'crying machine that can only dirty its diapers' make their lives work? Ezzie seeks understanding in the Tarot. Her readings often segue to confrontations with Matt. Peter is living with Trudy Fiske. Now reformed, he often strayed while encountering models in various stages of undress to paint. He speaks with Barton, Trudy's father. Revered as the world's greatest investor, he likes Peter. He also knows of Peter's past dalliances but sees them a good match. Selected to curate an important biennial in modern art, Ezzie dines with Peter, Matt and Trudy. Matt, awed by learning that Trudy is Barton's daughter, hopes she'll introduce. Matt's remark of how valuable Peter's work will become when he dies casts a pall. Trudy barks 'You expect me to introduce you to Daddy Fiske'?! Matt develops sub-prime real estate. He's not concerned with the credit worthiness of the borrowers. That's the banks problem. Those 'deadbeat slobs get a house. Glissman Haas earns huge fees securitizing the deal and everybody wins!” All while the markets are at all time highs. Matt and Ezzie own a Pantovicz. They both love it, Ezzie for its esthetic, Matt for the 2000% profit since the suicide. The conflict becomes a verbal sparring of their procreative schism. Matt asks Ezzie to join him on a business trip to Budapest. He will sate yer maternal urge! The confrontation continues with Matt trying to sleep while Ezzie reads her Tarot, sitting on the floor outside their bedroom. The next day Peter visits Ezzie with samples of work. Ezzie, alluringly dressed and ovulating, views Peter's as a potential fertilizer. Peter, sensing this, must leave. Rampant speculation topples global markets. Matt takes profit on the Pantovicz piece, Ezzie be dammed. Barton, interviewed on a financial network, expresses little short term hope in the global turmoil. Barton is next with Trudy. Sitting in his elite club, they discuss Peter's aspirations and Trudy's suspicion of Peter's lust for Ezzie. Matt comes home while Ezzie assesses artist's portfolios, she ignorant of the market collapse . Matt has sold the Pantovicz, incensing Ezzie. She leaves, lamenting her barren marriage. She visits Pater who is working, seduction her pretense. Lubricated by the requested wine, she turns up the heat, removes her top and is all over Peter. Trudy enters and emits a scream beyond anything ever heard in human history. Ezzie dresses and leaves. Peter and Trudy fight, he relegated to the futon for the night. Ezzie goes to Orbit, a trendy bar. It is late and few customers remain. Melvin, a soon to be disgraced financier and his passionate Greek wife Vanessa are joined by Hugh, an African-American metrosexcual and Jamie, the queen of asuccessful porn empire. Antonio, a sexy Latin, is also there. Melvin, the next morning to be indicted, soon departs. Aroused by Antonio, Jamie seeks him to work on her films. Ezzie, upon learning Antonio is a painter to return home in a few days thinks she's found an impregnator. She lures him from Jamie's sex film intent. Through his less than effective English, he tells Ezzie that he, having aids, must use a condom. This will do Ezzie no good, but she is kind to him and brings him back to his hotel at dawn. She walks home as the sun rises. When home, Matt has already left for work. The same morning, Trudy has packed and leaves to stay with her father at his club. She and Barton discuss Trudy's disturbing night before. Barton sees through Trudy's heavy bias, understands what is going on and suggest they have Ezzie, Matt and Peter with him and Trudy as guests at his club. Matt comes home, incensed by Ezzie's disappearance the night before. While they fight, Peter calls them, inviting them to Barton's club. Matt is appeased. Barton,Trudy and Peter wait for Ezzie and Matt who are prompt. Awed to be with Barton, Matt obsesses over Barton's ideas about the current turmoil. But they are there to celebrate Peter's good fortune through Ezzie, although Trudy's still miffed by Ezzie's attempted seduction of her man. Matt tells Barton of his current activity in Hungary to which Ezzie says 'maybe'. She has read Matt's Tarot without him there. The forces of the universe have a rude awakening in store. Matt receives a call from his Hungarian contact. The financing fell through and the deal is off. No trip to Budapest. In a twisted way, Ezzie is relieved. She doesn't need Matt nor a trip to Budapest to make her pregnant. Isle Reproductive Services will provide the seed. She leaves Matt, expressing great regret of her action with Peter to Trudy. Matt pursues her. The others comment how his unsubtle, uncreative mind can't take a hint. Trudy says she hopes t
