BLIND COURAGE
By Scott Fales

GENRE: Sports, Drama
LOGLINE:

A juvenile delinquent sentenced to assist an extreme sports ministry for blind students learns to see life from a new perspective, but walking away from a gang has its own consequences.

SYNOPSIS:

After being arrested for gang-related crimes, Joey is sentenced to participate with X:MO, Extreme Mobility. It is an extreme sports for blind students ministry that Joey wants nothing to do with, but his only other option is juvenile detention. Initially, the blind students don’t trust him and don’t want him as part of their tight knit group. Steven is one of the blind students and is the most vocal about keeping Joey out of the now divided group.

Joey and Steven are then paired up during a survival camping trip and Steven is badly hurt because of Joey’s negligence, even though Joey had no mal-intent. When Joey has to reappear in court, he is expecting to be sentenced to juvenile detention, but Steven surprisingly stands up for him and Joey is given another chance and allowed to continue with the ministry. Joey begins to see how cool this ministry really is, when he sees blind kids racing sports cars.

Joey finally realizes that he needs to escape from the gang, not the ministry. But, walking away from a gang isn’t so easy. When confronted by the other gang members, Joey turns on them to stand up for Steven and takes a beating. As the gang members fight, Joey’s abusive father intervenes and finally protects his own son. The broken relationship between father and son is set on a new course for healing and the blind students finally accept Joey as family. Not only does Joey reconnect with his father and find a new best friend, but he also realizes that his sentence was a calling and that his life is now fulfilling.
