Curious if you all put in ages for characters when the age isn't really pertinent to that character.

I read and read scripts to get an idea of how they should be. Then people on here say do it this way or that way. Does anyone else feel that way?
Hi this is Prince Matthew, I'm really totally overwhelmed. Glad I was here

Hey Rick, this is Karen from the Stage 32 team. I just wanted to let you know I moved your post from Post-Production to Your Stage (for links and promotions), as it fits much better there. Let me know if you have any questions and all the best to you!
Thanks, Karen.
I need inspiration for where to write. I always find myself writing at my desk in my apartment. It's getting old so I want to know where you guys sit down and write. I'd like to be inspired to write elsewhere than my boring desk with a bad view. The park? On a rooftop at sunset? In the car? On a mountain? Where??
We should note that the conversation switched to another subject under "good places to write" to "collaboration." It's a very good subject. I'm engaged in a collaboration right now on a Musical. I've had to learn some new modes of creating lyrics. So far, so good.
That's great to hear, Sherry! I started to write a comment about that when I re-read the thread and noticed Sarah asked to collaborate. It's her post. No worries here!
@Shawn Thanks.

Expand postHi, writers! I'd like to talk about length of dialogues in feature scripts. I always loved long ones. In fact, I think that ability to make a 10+ pages dialogue – it's what separates men from boys. But when I started submitting my stuff to contests, absolutely every reader told me same – shorter is better. Apparently, there is this "rule", that dialogues shouldn't be longer 2-3 pages. And that characters should talk only about what is necessary for storyline and nothing else. Personally, I totally disagree with that. But what about you? You like longer or shorter or medium? And what is longest dialogue you ever did? Mine is 20 pages.
Keep in mind the acting talent available to you. Very few present day Actors can deliver an extended aria or a long soloquie so it's best to keep the dialog in two/three lines separated by some action or cutaways. It makes everyone's life simpler.
Kyle
Awesome post.
Really depends on what type of script you're doing. Even if it's just dialogue you have to keep things moving. Just watched the original "Fail-Safe" yesterday. Absolutely brilliant. It's all dialogue but you can't look away from the characters and situation.

I'm an audio engineer in LA. My career has taken on many hats in audio. I've been a live sound engineer for concerts. A production, post, mixing, mastering, ADR recording engineer for films, I've been a celebrity podcast producer and an audio dramas producer. All of these hats I still wear and I am available for hire.
In the course of this pandemic, I have also written a novel, written 12 episodes of a YouTube series where I teach my methods of producing an audio drama from a home studio, recording 1 voice at a time. I have also I've completed 5 feature films with some friends that are currently in the process of release.
With that, I say Hello! How are ya'll doing?
---
Before you ask, the YouTube series is still pending. I have all the pre-production done and plan to start recording soon.
Nice to meet you, Rick. Do you know Jeff Eben? In LA. He was our head of sound with Cirque. Just checking! Cheers!

Do you have a script sitting on a shelf? A story that needs to be told? Novels make audiobooks. Screenplays make Audio Dramas. With my new service, I'll turn your script into a full Orson Welles style radio play. One you can sell as an audiobook or have a product that will serve as a proof of concept. Message me for more details.

Narration
Sound Design
Sound Effects
Ambiance for each scene
Voice Acting the dialog. (I hire for this)
Final mix.
This is pretty cool!
Note: I can typically turn 30 pages in about 14 days.

Here's a question for you. What happened to the Who-Done-It genre? Were all the ideas taken by the mystery shows of the 80s? Ridiculous! Come on, writers! Who's got a good "guess who" mystery in them? Why aren't you writing it? EDIT: I suppose the better question would be 'Why doesn't Hollywood like them?" The point of this question is that I love the classic Who Done It. I keep seeing movies that should have been late reveal mysteries, but instead follow a predictable format. Introduce Protagonist Introduce Antagonist Support - Protagonist Support - Antagonist Dance End. Maybe I just miss Murder She Wrote. /shrug.
Got you. I'm not versed in whodunits. Thanks for the insight, William.
Wasn't AMC/Netflix The Killing a WhoDoneIt?
I have written a parody of the genre. It takes place in Los Angeles in 1945 and the characters in the screenplay are parodies of the actors and actresses of the "Whodunit" genre. It also has the slang of the 1940s.

I just choose to follow a path forged by award winning and the herald people that have come before me and not those watching them. As much as I love this echo chamber. Sometimes we need to hear a new song from the choir.

Hey Rick, hope things are going well for you.
Filmed in the desert of Washington State this past winter. Done on shoestring budget and filmed in 2, 15 degree days. Let me know what you think?
Bro. You put a lot of time in making this. Great job.
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed this!
For a shoe string budget this is very decently shot and edited.

I insert ages as a guide for the Casting Director. I often write TORI (plays 25) in the character intro. It's how you want the character to look - it doesn't matter how old the Actor is. My best applicant for that role is actually 21 - this is where hair/makeup comes in.

I always put in the ages, because it helps me develop a greater understanding of who they are.
