Decade Under the Influence is a fantastic documentary film, directed by Ted Demme and Richard LaGravenese (If you haven’t seen it, it is a must see and should be part of your DVD or Blu Ray collection!) and it is about the "turning point" in American cinema in the 1970s. I believe we are at another “turning point” in world wide cinema. When the big studio pictures from the 50s and 60s came to an end, a new generation of filmmakers created work for a new kind of audience people who were hungry for stories that reflected their own experiences turning their backs on aged old studio formulas. We are in the era of the Blockbuster movies, films that cost over a hundred million to make filled with A-list stars and special effects. Another turning point is happening right now. When I went to film school in the early 90s an decent indie film would be shot on film and cost a minimum of sixty to a hundred thousand dollars and would most likely be shot in black and white. Remember Clerks and Pi? The change started in the year 2000 and now what the indie filmmaker has as far as resources, simply put is just incredible. So I ask you why have certain things stayed the same in the industry? What do you think is going to change? I have my own opinions that I will follow up with in a later post but I’m interested to hear (or should I saw read) all of your thoughts….

Today the audience needs to immerse in story world and character and BE INVOLVED..hard to do that when they're simply spectators.. think about it :)
Count me in, we're neighbors too :).
