About David

David Perlis hails from south Louisiana, and to answer those burning questions: no, he doesn’t own the Perlis boutique in New Orleans (you know those clothes with the crawfish all over them?), and: yes, he sometimes gets that dude’s mail.

His short story, The Lion’s Den (co-adapted by David for the screen) has been showcased in film festivals across the country, including The Big Island Film Festival, and Third Street Film Festival in Baton Rouge, at which it won “Best of Fest.” Since 2014, he has focused on writing animated series, and his pilots, Waking Gaia (2014), and Pactum Demonik (2015) were finalists and semi-finalists respectively in ’s annual People’s Pilot contest.

David got the writing bug in his formative years. He was inspired by Harry Potter, who defeated the most powerful wizard of all time, even without 20/20 vision. David finds this admirable—he thinks the books are pretty good, too. His own writing features strong elements of magical realism, thrillers, and plot twists. The film adaptation of his short story, The Tapir, an absurdist look at reality and perception, is currently in post-production by New Orleans production company Asymptote Pictures, for release in 2016.

After graduating Louisiana State University in 2013 with a degree in creative writing, David ought to close the achievement gap in the Bay Area through volunteer efforts with AmeriCorps, and work as a development associate at the Lighthouse Community Charter School in Oakland, California.

David loves coffee, his slippers, and vegetarian tacos. He refuses to explain himself for wearing a vest on his OkCupid date with Katherine—he still thinks it looked good, and doesn’t care what anyone else says. Seriously, though, David would never wear "crawfish" clothes.
