Hi Gil, my rating button is not working with over a week. This genre is unknown to me, but military history becoming something of increasing interest in recent years. I often wonder about the violent struggles for liberty only ro see sometimes the liberators become oppressors in their turn. What are the central conflicts here?

This is based on a real story. The real Enver Pasha, former Minister of War of the Ottoman Empire, was recruited after World War I by Bolshevik Russia to assist the Bolsheviks conquer Central Asia. After witnessing the Bolshevik depredations against the Central Asia people, Pasha joined the Basmachi - an army of bandits and brigands fighting for their freedom against the atheist Russians. He then led an army of several hundred thousand against the Bolsheviks and was killed in a cavalry charge in what today is Tajikistan. This screenplay has three main characters: Pasha, Baron Giorgi Krasnov "The Red Baron", and Counter Larissa Solovieva - the widow of the former Russian Governor General of Central Asia and the love interest of both men.

I'm quite ignorant of Eastern history. Sounds like this would shed some light. I don't have much time for reading history books, especially if they are big tomes of history, but I do like a story stepped in history...of course, that's the inherent beauty of film... to make history come alive for us!
