About Jan

Jan Welt has been a filmmaker for forty plus years, having matriculated at New York University's Masters degree in Cinema. After university, he joined forces with author Norman Mailer and edited Mailer's first film “Wild 90,” going on to photograph and edit Mailer's second and third features, “Beyond The Law (chosen for the New York Film Festival) and the notorious “Maidstone.” Subsequently, Welt photographed and edited Alan Funt's second feature film “Money Talks” for United Artists before continuing on to edit the highly successful CBS series “The New Candid Camera.”

After twenty five years of New York and Los Angeles, he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska where he continues to make movies.

Among his feature film credits are the direction of “Silver Beach” starring Nancy Cronkite and “A Dead Heat” starring Rita Gam. As an actor, Jan appeared (briefly) in “The Werewolf of Washington” and “Florida” (at length) -- a film set in Florida but shot entirely in Alaska -- as well as co-directing the film. Joining forces with Alaskan playwright Dick Reichman, Jan subsequently produced, photographed and edited feature films of Reichman's plays "The Big One," "Bruckner's Last Finale" and, now, "The Audition."

In addition to feature films, Jan has written, produced, directed and edited over a hundred corporate films for many Fortune Magazine's top 100 American companies.

Unique traits: The anagram for Cinema is, fittingly, Iceman.
