About Zan
Born Chicago 1933 lived in Albany Park until age 12; then moved to slum area for 8th grade - H.S at Hyde Park, graduated 1950. Next 4.5 years at University of Illinois-Chicago and final 2 years at U of Ill.-Urbana. While there did a bit of acting, and wrote prizewinning musical for Dad's Day Revue. Graduated with degree in Econ. Theory and Management. Started working for community newspaper, then copywriter for mail order house, then in 1957, became manager of Sports PR for U of Ill. at Chicago, where earlier I had been a member of the tennis team, which helped me land the job Shortly hereafter got promoted to News Bureau Manager of UIC, which included managing he student news paper. Next jobs: PR Director Chicago Heart Assn., PR/Advertising /speechwriter for Illinois Bell, PR VP major Chicago downtown bank, Marketing/PR Manager for Jewish Federation of Chicago, where I developed several national prizewinning videos. Returned to UIC in 1987, got M.A. in Communications (No Drama Dept. yet) focused on play writing and analysis. Married 1959, to Blossom Millner, 3 children, all gifted, married and doing.well. Through it all I continued to write plays but family duties cut opportunities to maintain contacts with Chicago theatres. Retired 1999 to focus on play writing and getting productions..
Unique traits: I'm the only Zan Skolnick in North America, according to Google. And my plays are indicative of my individuality. I write in varying, sometimes fused genres, though comedy seems to be infused no matter what the situation. I look forward to meeting you all, but especially producers who might be interested in my work.
