About Monique

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, a graduate from American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and now reside in Brooklyn, NY. Throughout my life writing short stories and journaling was cathartic for me. It was my acting journey that made clear writing was my true path.

After my first script SBF: Single Black Female was a semi-finalist in the Writers On The Storm screenwriting contest, I took that as a good omen that I was meant to write. I focused on honing my craft and joined a screenwriting group.

Soon after that I was hired for freelance work to flush out characters/comedy in existing scripts. While the majority of my scripts are comedy, I seek opportunities to broaden my skills in other genres. I feel it only helps a writer to become better if they stretch beyond their initial genre. Not only strengthening your initial skill-set but exposing you to other opportunities.

I was hired by Scorpio Pictures to write a children's television and feature project from existing material. Recently I had the opportunity to write a treatment for the Hattie McDaniel biopic, which enabled me to exercise my drama-muscles.

My scripts have placed in both Blue Cat and Scriptapalooza screenwriting contests.

I co-founded Empire Screenwriters Lab with a fellow female writer in New York. While the writing group is now defunct, the knowledge I gained from creating a safe space for writers to share & support each other can't be measured. During the 5yrs I not only gained confidence as a writer but the experience deepened my collaborative and leadership skills.

By using humor to create inclusive and universal stories that reflect our multicultural society, is what I strive to accomplish with my scripts.

Unique traits: Ability to showcase my voice without overpowering the goal of my scripts. With voice-acting, the ability to connect with familiar tone aka a friend telling a story.
