About Marc



Marc Akiyama is a composer, lyricist, drummer, and percussionist. He is a graduate of New York University’s Steinhardt Percussion Performance Program under the direction of virtuoso timpanist, Jonathan Haas. He’s performed in several percussion chamber groups as well as jazz, marimba, and steel drum ensembles. He has studied writing for concert and musical theatre with Dr. Steven Rosenhaus, as well as orchestral conducting with Roger Mahadeen. Marc attended the Society of Composers & Lyricists’ New York Mentor Program with accomplished film composer Chris Hajian, and the Palomar Film Music Workshop with Emmy award winning composer Larry Groupé.

In addition to scoring independent short films, more recently Marc was involved in San Diego’s professional theatre as a musician for New Village Arts and Intrepid Theatre Company’s co-production of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, and as the assistant music director and musician for New Village Arts’ The Secret Garden. Marc also performs with the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus.
