  • Mesdames et Messieurs

    Mesdames et Messieurs (2005)
Film (Short) Director A chic, 1930s cabaret. The atmosphere is cool, but electric. There's a sense of anticipation, as though champagne corks are ready to pop. Ladies and gentlemen, the evening is getting underway! Couples meet to the sound of a cappella voices singing of love. The music - by Luc Plamondon, Patricia Kaas, Edith Piaf, Gérard Lenorman, Jean-Pierre Ferland and others - is sung by adults. But the couples are played by children: 26 seven-year-old whose teacher worked with them throughout the project. It's a dance-filled evening of emotion: from love to laughter, tears, anger, and back to love again. Voices mingle and dancers glide through an evening bursting with life and excitement. À quoi penses-tu? (2002)
Film (Comedy and Short) Director In a cafe, a young man loses himself in thought. As he relentlessly chews his carrot cake, the energetic Laure recounts with enthusiasm her disastrous ad- venture. Captivated by her own countless details, she stirs and rests her cup of espresso without ever even taking a sip. Meanwhile, the young man, preoccupied with the origins of a dessert made with vegetables, is interrupted by the perplexed Laure with her question: "What's eating you?" Needless to say, the answer to her question is left up to the audience's interpretation... À quoi penses-tu? is a short film accentuated by a recurrent musical theme that teases the audience's perspective and interpretation. Is it possible that the musical score actually holds the hidden answer to the film's rhetorical question? It is for you to decide... Written by David Boisclair
