SYNOPSIS:

After graduating from Boston University, Amelia Jameson, a young journalist, returns to her father’s Vermont home and unearths a sealed study belonging to her ancestor T.P. James, the newspaperman who famously claimed to “finish” Charles Dickens’ The Mystery of Edwin Drood through spiritual dictation. Inside, she discovers James’s heavily annotated journal—its margins filled with layered notes, cryptic symbols, and messages written in different hands across different eras. As Amelia digs deeper, she uncovers a forgotten history of spiritualist séances in 1870s Brattleboro, including the mysterious death of Agnes James, a young woman whose writings may hold the key to understanding a phenomenon beyond Victorian superstition. Simultaneously, a powerful corporation, Quantum Futures, is conducting secret research into the Quantum Holographic Substrate, a theoretical information layer linking minds, memories, and timelines. The more Amelia investigates—with the help of her conflicted Boston roommate Lily Blackwell, Vermont technologist Carter Whitcomb, and Quantum Futures whistleblower Sarah Travers—the more she becomes aware of a persistent presence threading itself through the past and present: Lucien, an entity first encountered in an 1870s séance and now emerging through modern data anomalies.
