About Dareen

Dareen is a filmmaker from Syria, she studied journalism and graduated in 2007. Dareen couldn't find her way in a film in Syria, so she decided to learn by herself via the internet and books. She worked as a dancing teacher for kids in a private school. then collected money for three years to be able to buy a Canon 7d Camera. In 2012, after the Syrian war broke out, Dareen moved to Beirut where she began to teach Arabic and paint, as she loved to draw and paint people to earn money to live and buy other Camera staff. After that, she made her first film documentary by herself, Bread and Iron, the film won two Awards and nominated for seven more. In 2012 she moved to the Netherlands, where she continues working as a filmmaker and freelance journalist for the Netherlands worldwide broadcasting web, RNW. Then she started her own women's organization and went viral on the Internet, working daily to publish ten articles, videos, and films to support women's rights, volunteering, and creating short clips to assist refugees in the Netherlands.
