Hey all! I'm just curious what types of NLE's you use and what style projects you cut on it? I'm personally a Final Cut and AVID person, but am curious what my fellow cutters use. Have a good day!

All of us now have access to the same editing, coloring, VFX, and 3D software that the large production house use for free on our own projects. Here's a short list of some of them.

This is a network for you, built by you. Like most things in life, the more you participate, the greater the rewards. We ask all new members to pay it forward by inviting 5 fellow creatives to the network and by spreading the word of Stage 32 through other social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The more creatives, the stronger the network. The stronger the network, the more opportunities.
Thanks for joining the movement and for being a part of this most talented and inspiring community. I very much look forward to your contributions.
Thanks, and have a creative day!

I looked online and found the most common form is a montage style. The montage seems OK but it doesn't really tell you anything about the scenes or the way it was cut, I would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on showreel format? Thanks again.

Expand commentTony, What's happening in the scene isn't really important for an acting reel. It's more important that your performance is showcased, which is usually best when there are few or no cuts. If a scene is cut in a way that interferes with showcasing your performance, it might be better to use a different clip. A performance montage is a good way to go, with clips lasting 10-30 seconds each. I recommend keeping the total length of your reel close to the 3 minute mark. Limit any intro to 5 seconds, then begin with YOUR performance immediately. Make sure it's easy to identify you in the scene and put your very best clips at the beginning of your reel. I hope this helps.
Hi Jay, thanks. Yes that does help a great deal, I agree roughly 3 minutes seems about right to really give the full flavor of the scene.
Exactly how Jay said Tony, under 3 minutes, 10-30 seconds each. Here's my old one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHcsAujcE1I I have 5 scenes, total 2:44....

Hey Kevin, I use a mixture of FCP X, PP CC and Avid. Mainly PP for any corporate work or projects that require lots of different source footage to be edited quickly. I also work at a post-house and use Avid there as that is what most of the broadcast editors use there.
