About Pamela

I never would have dreamed I'd be making my first documentary film as a Baby Boomer, but here I am, and I couldn't be more grateful for it. It is my great honor to direct an independent documentary film about The Wild I-Tralian, Dick Biondi, who like many of you, touched me when I first heard his crazy manic style jump out of my transistor radio back in the early sixties. His genuine interest and kindness impressed me when I was a mixed up 13 year old kid, and I never forgot it.

Dick Biondi started out playing R&B in the Jim Crow South, and went on to become one of the most influential radio personalities of the Twentieth Century. In 1961 and 1962 while at WLS in Chicago, Biondi was voted #1 disc jockey in the U.S. In February 1963 he played Please Please Me by an unknown British group known as the Beatles, a year before they went on the Ed Sullivan Show and changed the world.

"Dick had great ears," said singer Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons.
"Dick was the first to break Surfer Girl", said Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.
"You never forget your first, "said Tony Orlando. Dick was the first to play Tony Orlando, Bobby Darin, and many others

To tell Dick's story, I've had the great pleasure of interviewing many of the artists I grew up listening to. It's been a six year journey, and my editor and I are finishing up the rough cut assembly which looks to be 1 hour 40 minutes in length. We have interest from at least 4 PBS stations around the country, and are looking to do film festivals, streaming, and DVD. At this time I could use some help/advice on researching media and music on a low budget and to learn more about copy rights. Dick will be 88 in September 2020 and my goal is to complete the project in time to celebrate with him.

Okay, Richard Botto, there I did it. I wrote my bio.
