A stranger visits a family in Miami claiming to be an old friend of their recently deceased grandfather from Cuba. He gains their trust sharing old family history, but as strange occurrences change their lives, they slowly discover the stranger is not what he seems.
SYNOPSIS:
Two months after the funeral of the Flores family patriarch, a mystical old man, Arturo Viznacho, shows up at the widow, Dolores’, front door. He claims to be an old friend of her husband’s from Cuba. Fellow art college students during the rise of the revolution who drifted apart over political differences. Charmed, Dolores takes him in after he reveals that he just arrived in the U.S. and has nowhere to stay. Arturo slowly ingratiates himself to the family; daughter Ana, son Guillermo, and Ana’s two kids, Lily and Dimitri. He shares unflattering history of their father’s time back in Cuba. The family starts to turn on each other with dark suspicions after Arturo subtly manipulates them using his supernatural gifts. At the same time, also using his subtle magic, he makes their individual life ambitions seem suddenly accessible.
Dolores starts to suspect Arturo is not who he claims to be and begins investigating him. She learns of his true nature and horrific past deeds, but the rest of her family is too enamored with Arturo and the good fortune he has brought them to hear her out. Working his dark magic, Arturo gives Dolores a mysterious paralysis syndrome that prevents her from talking. Soon Ana and Guillermo begin to feel negative side effects from his magic as well. Little by little the family grows uneasy and realizes they need to come together to figure out how to break free of Arturo’s control.
