BIG DOG RULES

BIG DOG RULES
By Stephen Fife

GENRE: Adventure, Crime
LOGLINE:

Max Berry, 30, is a great ballroom dancer and teacher in Washington DC with aspirations of being a great investigative reporter. After a few false starts, he stumbles on to a huge conspiracy within the Drug Enforcement Agency, and he hangs on for dear life, no matter how much trouble it brings him... or how big a dog.  Co-written with Ralph Pezzullo.

SYNOPSIS:

Max Berry has won several awards in ballroom dancing competitions, and he's the most popular teacher at Rico's Dancing Feet in Washington DC, with a coterie of women yearning to get intimate with him. But what Max yearns for is to do something that matters, something of substance. Given that his father sold ads for the Washington Post and worshipped the investigative reporters there, it is not all that surprising that Max has fixated on this as a serious goal. The problem is, nobody takes him seriously. The old reporters he hangs out with keep telling him to "stick with the dancing," and the editor who tolerates him at the Post refuses to give him a shot.

Then Max is able to wrangle an invitation to a re-election party for Senator Macumber, where he meets up with Alicia Palacios ("Baby"), a sexy Latina escort. She douses Macumber with fake blood as a way of bringing attention to the disappearance of her brother. Max learns that she works for someone named Looper and that she's been in touch with another freelance reporter, who has also disappeared. They make an appointment to meet the next day, but Baby turns up dead the next morning, dumped by the side of the freeway.

Max rushes over to her apartment, hoping to get there before the police have cordoned it off. He manages to get inside, only to be chased for his life by a huge and terrifying Rottweiler. He is able to dive into a closet and shut the door, watching a few moments later when two men come and wrestle the big dog into a cage. Max finds a postcard in Baby's room that the other reporter has sent her from the Surfside Motel in Miami. When Max finds himself suddenly in the News as a person of interest in Baby's death, he leaves DC for Miami.

There will be many other adventures along the way, but everything will lead him to a Right-Wing philanthropist named Lou Blake, his much younger wife Tina (an ex-porno actress), and the island Lou owns, where a huge criminal enterprise is being planned. Will Max be able to foil it? And, more to the point, when he finds himself face to face again with this huge dog, will he be able to dance out of reach of those jaws?
