A gay rodeo weekend brings three different men out to dance, sing, and decide whether they are going to continue to follow the party or settle down.

SYNOPSIS:

The weekend for the National Gay Rodeo Association (NGRA) event in suburban Denver arrives. While the rodeo events are held out beyond the suburbs, everyone heads downtown each night to dance and cut loose. The plot follows several couples or singles looking to find partners similar to “Love Actually” or “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” The musical numbers add an extra dynamic as in “Cabaret” or “All That Jazz.”

Ron and Fred have been partners for five years. Ron is an accountant and wannabe cowboy. Fred is a cowboy and rodeo champion, banged up enough that he is on disability. They live in an upscale townhouse. Ron is annoyed by Fred’s lack of interest in their relationship. However, he still loves Fred and can’t bear to throw him out.

Ron arrives outside Chutes, a gay country-western dance bar in Denver’s warehouse district that is the host of the NGRA event. Paul and Martin, from Baltimore, are in a small, purple rental car. Martin has just been divorced and his girlfriend left him because he has been exploring a bisexual side he is coming to grips with. Paul, Marty’s gay friend, has arranged for them to attend the rodeo weekend to help Marty with meeting men.

The bartender at Chutes, Dane, is in his late forties and regrets never having settled down. He is friends with Derik, a beverage delivery truck driver and weekend cowboy, who only knows how to pick men for sex. Derik and Dane alternately complain about never having found the right one while chasing Paul for NSA sex. Derik also has been trying to help Ron realize his rodeo dreams. He hooks Ron up with someone to participate in the goat dressing contest, so Ron can finally participate in the rodeo.

As the weekend unfolds, Ron makes a move on Marty who is also eyed by Dolly, the owner of Chutes. Marty is completely confused and thinks Dolly is a drag queen. Fred keeps trying to demonstrate he still loves Ron. He is unsuccessful until Ron discovers he needs to stop pretending to be things he isn’t. Derik and Dane spin their wheels until they finally recognize that maybe they should be looking at each other for companionship instead of chasing an out-of-towner like Paul.
