SYNOPSIS:

Finny and the Boy From Horse Mountain

By: Ray Hoese rdhoese@gmail.com

Against the backdrop of the high-stakes and intensely competitive equestrian sport of show jumping, Finny, a fifteen-year- old girl in central California, adopts an emaciated, untrained ex-race horse (Sky) without her parents' knowledge.

Soon after adopting him, Finny also "adopts" Joe, a sixteen-year-old, who has run away from his abusive uncle in Montana. She gives Joe a place to sleep and brings him food as he recovers from a severe beating at the hands of his uncle. His knowledge of horses is a perfect fit for Finny's dream of competing in the show jumping arena against rich girls on expensive horses.

Together, Joe and Finny train Sky to become a first-rate show jumper. But the path is fraught with danger. Sky is not like other horses and is so destructive and difficult at first that he gets them kicked out of the ranch where Finny has been working and training.

A kind neighbor who owns a horse rescue takes them in (Joe and Sky). Joe proves both his and Sky's incredible talents.

When Joe is virtually kidnapped by his violent uncle ( who has child custody law on his side, but evil in his heart), Finny and her horse are the only ones who can save him.

In a breathtaking finale, Sky and Finny must enter the underworld of the rodeo circuit, eventually entering an after-hours, illegal cross-country race, where Finny risks both her and Sky's lives to save the boy they love.
