Hi Jodi. I'm RB, Founder and CEO of Stage 32. As a screenwriter, producer, actor and filmmaker, I know first-hand the challenges all creatives face finding work, landing representation, launching projects, securing funding and simply making the connections that will make a difference in their careers. That's why I created Stage 32. Since our launch in September of 2011, the community has grown to 1,000,000+ members representing every country on the planet making Stage 32 the social network uniquely populated with the most creative people on Earth.
This is a network for you, built by you. Like most things in life, the more you participate, the greater the rewards. We ask all new members to pay it forward by inviting 5 fellow creatives to the network and by spreading the word of Stage 32 through other social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The more creatives, the stronger the network. The stronger the network, the more opportunities.
Thanks for joining the movement and for being a part of this most talented and inspiring community. I very much look forward to your contributions.
Thanks, and have a creative day!
RB

Expand commentAlways good to have energy and positivity, as well as unwavering confidence, so I know this is a harsh as hell unpopular reality check. I get it. But it all means nothing unless a script is actually sold. You can have all the script requests and meetings you want, but unless a script is actually sold it is all for naught. Brutal? Yes. Harsh reality? Yes. Lots of testimonials about having a script requested and given great feedback or having a meeting and getting great advice. But nothing about a script actually ever being sold. I have been in these situations myself (though not thru Stage 32), only to fall short of a script sale. I came extremely close 3 times, but I backed off for glaring red flag reasons. Script change requests that would butcher the script. Wanting to insert 23 unnecessary and unwanted flashback scenes into the script for no logical reason. Wanting to buy your copyright and make 2 film versions of the script. One for Asia and one for North America, but only wanting to pay you $20,000.00 for your copyright with no percentages or any additional compensation, etc. You play football to win the Super Bowl. You play baseball to win the World Series. You play basketball to win the NBA Finals. You write screenplays to get your script sold. Anything less means nothing. Almost. Damn near. Not quite. Better off exploring and getting to know your network contacts here. They may be your ticket to actually getting your script sold.

Expand commentHey Mike Briock! Definitely valid to have realistic discussions such as this one, I think each of us at one point or another has had some tough experiences and hit that wall of bleak reality, akin to the ones you mentioned above. Conversely, I do appreciate your acknowledgement about doing our best to maintain positivity, confidence and energy, that's what sustains us. Is it rough/crazy out there some times? Yes absolutely. But I think being on the platform here and having this access and fostering these relationships could definitely bring a person closer to breaking through and can be the right springboard for sure. And there have been examples of films being sold and/or made through Stage 32. Crushed, which premiered on Tubi; Chick Fight, with Malin Ackerman; and most recently Nowhere Men with Jack Quaid and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It does happen, you know? And that's not even listing the ones that were optioned and haven't been made yet (or may not be made, as we all know happens sometimes unfortunately). Point is that it can and does happen. But again, I think it's healthy to bring this up and I think your experiences reflect alot of our own as well. But getting to know the network and community here can help us all deal with it together at least, right?

Expand commentMike Briock, if you'd like to read up on some of the great success stories from writers and producers here in the community who have sold scripts, signed agreements, secured representation, and wrapped production on great projects that originated from meeting/script requests, consultations, and connections made here on Stage 32, you can find them here: https://www.stage32.com/blog/tags/success-stories-55
Additionally, as a former Development Executive, I can confirm that we never purchased a script or book or signed a shopping/option agreement without first requesting the script and meeting with the writer. That being said, we took many meetings that ultimately didn't lead to a partnership for a multitude of reasons. Some merely weren't the right fit at the moment, but the relationship continued and eventually led to other opportunities. But it would be a mistake to look at these moments in building your career and experience as being a waste in any way. Getting a script request is an important part of the process and is worth celebrating. Getting a meeting with someone where you can then have the opportunity to network and build a relationship is even more important. The mistake would be considering ANY part of the process or journey "meaningless". If you're learning, you're growing.
