About John

John believes his role as an artist is to encourage and incite laughter and joy while creating meaningful stories. He believes comedy and laughter bring people and communities together.

His next project starting in 2017 is to film a documentary regarding comedy and culture, where he will travel and work with various comedians and communities throughout the globe. He hopes the interviews and performances he documents will show the differences and similarities we have across cultures in what we laugh about.

John Voth was born In Germany to Russian parents and grew up in Australia. He was inspired to act by watching Al Pacino and Jim Carrey movies and moved to Vancouver, Canada, where he began studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Trinity Western University. Since his graduation in 2010, John has demonstrated his diverse capabilities in a variety of roles with Bard on the Beach, The Arts Club, and Pacific Theatre. His favourite projects have involved collaborating with fellow artists to create engaging stories with strong physical and character roles. In particular, John was recognized for his outstanding turn in The Foreigner with ‘Best Lead Actor in Large Theatre’ at the Annual Vancouver Jessie Awards. He continues to work in Theatre while pursuing Film and TV. Recently he acted in "Supernatural", where he got stabbed in the heart.

Along with his dramatic work, John hosts a variety of comedy shows and is a MainStage player with Vancouver Theatre Sports. His short films and sketch comedy can be found in various corners of the internet with regularly updated feeds on Instagram, Youtube and Twitter.
