A bullied fifth grade witch-in-training impatiently summons a demon as her defender, but when it antagonizes her friends and terrifies her mother, she must team up with her witchy mentor to banish it.

SYNOPSIS:

Juniper Fairchild (10), a witch-in-training, attracts the bullying attention of a trio of girls. She doesn’t know why they pick on her but she wants the bullying to stop and for them to leave her alone.

She studies magic with her neighbor, Janis Sullivan (62). Juniper sneaks into Janis’ usually off-limits magic library. Juniper stumbles on an ancient magical book; pirates it home; and finds a spell to summon an invisible servant.

Juniper performs the spell and revels in the servants’ ability to grant wishes. Calling this servant is black magic and Janis prohibited this. When Janis discovers Juniper has cast this spell, she demands the servant be banished. The temptation to use it is too strong. It’s so cool!

The servant worms its way into Juniper’s life. Juniper confesses the struggles of enduring bullying. The servant leans on the oppressors. Angry at Juniper’s defiance of her order, Janis cuts her loose.

The servant takes on the appearance of Juniper’s deceased father. He openly attacks people who bully or even appear to bully Juniper and her mother. Horrified when he attacks her close friends and harasses her mother, Juniper realizes she made a mistake in not banishing the servant earlier.

Juniper takes the book back to Janis, admits what she did, and asks for help in banishing it. Janis realizes she did what many adults do; ordered a child around without giving a reason why. That’s not what a good teacher does.

Together, they banish the demon. Juniper lures it to a summoning circle. Janis warns Juniper not go into the circle. Defying Janis again, Juniper steps into the circle but destroys the demon where it resides, violently returning to a very worried Janis.

Janis and Juniper destroy the book. Juniper has a normal day at school. She realizes the opinions of a trio of snotty girls mean nothing when you’re a witch. She will study with Janis again and become the best person she can be.
