HOMEGROWN

HOMEGROWN
By Dave Wickenden

GENRE: Thriller
LOGLINE:

A grieving young American teen is manipulated into joining an international ISIS terrorist plot and his only hope is his widowed mother, Gail, 38, who refuses to allow him to die.

SYNOPSIS:

When DALTON, an American teen, loses his father to an industrial accident, his only solace comes from the peace and brotherhood he finds within the Muslim faith. However, Dalton is unaware he is being radicalized by his new network of friends who are affiliated with the Islamic State. When they stage a supposedly chance confrontation with anti-Muslim thugs, Dalton kills one attacker in defense of his friends…thereby solidifying his dedication to the group.

Meanwhile, in Syria, AAZAM swears vengeance against the American-led air coalition for the death of his friend and wife. He devises a plan to use homegrown terrorists to detonate massive explosives in their home countries in an orchestrated attack. The Islamic State leadership tests Aazam’s plan by attacking Moscow, to devastating effect. Aazam tours the different coalition countries and meets with his other teams.

Back in the US, Dalton meets DAANYA, the sister of his Muslim friend, and sparks fly. Dalton agrees to accompany the Muslim group on a camping trip at a West Virginia farm. Daanya warns him that it’s not what it seems, and she’s right: during the trip, Dalton learns that his new friends have a violent plan for those who oppress the Islamic faith. When he protests, he is shown that his new girlfriend and mother are in mortal danger if he fails to comply.

Afraid for his safety, Daanya tells Dalton’s mother, GAIL, that her son is being radicalized, and they enlist the help of Homeland Security agent, but the trail goes cold. They are unable to stop Dalton’s group from stealing a truck of explosives.

Meanwhile, back in the Middle East, Aazam kills his superior in an argument over control of the mission. Before fleeing to America, he destroys the computer server and kills everyone who could have cancelled the attacks. Now, Aazam is only one inciting attack away from starting a chain of events that will take down major cities all over the world - starting in the United States.

When Dalton finds an opportunity to call home, Aazam and Daanya’s brother catch him and beat him into submission. As the terrorist group moves locations to avoid detection, Dalton enlists another team member to stand up to Aazam. Aazam accepts the challenge, kills Dalton’s partner and threatens Gail and Daanya if Dalton does not cooperate.

Daanya is used as bait to flush out the terrorist and half the team is captured, however two terrorist leaders with Dalton escape the trap.

Dalton is able to rewire the triggers on the bomb that has been built into a school bus. He drives the bus to a crowded fairground, but encounters his mother. Aware that his plan is failing fast, Aazam shoots Gail. Dalton manages to drop the blasting mechanism and remote into Aazam’s jacket and when Aazam tries to detonate the bomb, the blasting cap explodes wounding him. He turns on Dalton — but not before the injured Gail ends Aazam’s life with her own handgun.

Crisis averted, Dalton returns home. Surrounded by family, he realizes how much he stood to lose. His mom is safe and now he has Daanya. He also knows now that his faith is about love and that God does provide. However, the Islamic State does not know of Dalton’s change of heart, so to atone for his involvement, Homeland Security recruits Dalton to infiltrate the on-line ISIS recruitment network.
