A man undergoes a cutting-edge procedure to implant an AI health tracker, only to have it predict and then constantly recalculate the exact time of his death, unraveling his reality as he races to change his fate.
SYNOPSIS:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) promises to bring dreams to life, but MASTER & servant will vividly show how these dreams could so easily become nightmares. These cautionary tales will blend satire with absurdity and add a pinch of surprise to both delight and create discomfort in equal parts.
Our problem, however, is not technological; it's human. Individually, humans can be smart and rational, but en masse, we are apathetic idiots. Technology is merely an accomplice to our laziness and stupidity.
Are we using this technology, or is it using us? Who is the MASTER, and who is the servant?
Society has begun to free itself from the divine-right monarchies and religious dogma of the past, but it has only led us into the willing hands of our new corporate masters. The very tools of our liberation fill the newly created vacuum and enslave us once more.
Each episode will vary wildly in theme and tone, and it will be a platform for a range of directorial styles across a plethora of genres. It's a show that's not afraid to take risks, yet every genre will feel like a natural fit. The stories will range from the poignant to the brave and inspired, one moment satirically hilarious and the next utterly terrifying.
You can always expect some sort of message or commentary on our world through each episode, and the beauty of the series is that no two episodes are alike. Each episode will focus on a different issue with AI, Job displacement, media misinformation and manipulation (fake news and deep fakes), bias and discrimination in training data, security risks, legal and regulatory challenges, economic inequality, concentration of power, privacy, lack of transparency, ethical dilemmas, transhumanism - the belief that humans can evolve past its current limitations through technology, and the existential risk and unintended consequences that come with limitless power.
It’s a simple premise with endless possibilities and stories to tell that’s guaranteed to have something for everyone. It foretells the wonders and dangers of artificial intelligence in the near future by combining the dark humour of Black Mirror with the macabre twists and social commentary of The Twilight Zone while utilizing the daring shifting tones and audacious themes of Inside No. 9. Ultimately, it will always be rooted in character and the human condition. MASTER & servant - It’s a lot like life, and that’s what’s appealing.
