A Father’s savage death ensnares his reluctant daughter into werewolf hunting.

SYNOPSIS:

LEGACY (© PAu 3-757-974) is my modern twist on a Grimm tale

As a rabid fan of the werewolf genre I set out to re-imagine and write a high concept female-driven tale of red riding hood. I have no formal writing education; however, with my dragon staff and wizard hat I embarked on that journey several years ago. Early on, I did happen to win a non-descript short script contest from Audio Movies Production LLC out of Sylmar, CA in 2013. I have independently published two books, and two anthologies all in the horror genre.

That’s my writing career in four sentences. Anyway, enough boring shit. Let’s get to the meat.

Short synopsis:

Pregnant people pleaser and work alcoholic REBECCA ROSE HEALY (20s) has a wonderful marriage. She springs the news on her husband who then tries to convince her to finally go away with him, but she has to sign a new client first.Unbeknownst to Rose’s widower father, she shows up alone at the family cabin to surprise him only to find the cabin empty, or so it appears. Her husband is delayed. Rose’s life implodes in a matter of minutes as a werewolf murders her father, but hesitates with Rose. The butler chases the werewolf off with a shotgun, and then the husband arrives.

Afterward, Rose and her husband are let in on the family secret kept from Rose on the wishes of her dead mother. Rose’s aunt reveals the family leads a stalwart peacekeeper organization that enforces a covenant made centuries ago with the werewolves. Now, it’s believed some want to disavow that bargain. Based on cabin events, the aunt suspects the alpha of the rogue pack wants Rose, and is near to them. Betrayal, anger and fear pump through Rose. She wants no part of this cluster fuck, and to protect her unborn child she decides to run. Her husband agrees.

However, as Rose packs she experiences a violent cramp. She loses her child. As grief mixes with rage and a dollop of revenge, Rose takes the first step on a path that will alter her life forever. She begins to train with the butler while he and the aunt investigate those within the inner circle.

Meanwhile, suspicion envelops Rose’s husband which widens the crevasse between them. Rose’s rigorous workouts take a physical toll, and she is on an emotional island. She can’t talk to co-workers or friends. Her aunt preaches family duty, sacrifice and commitment to something bigger. Her husband pressures Rose to go away with him. Rose can’t run because the alpha will never stop the hunt for its desire. Also, Rose discovers her mother’s sin, a sin which broke her mentally and sent her to her reckless end.

As the investigation continues, a clue triggers Rose’s memory of recent banal actions of her husband that now fit into place. Rose, the aunt and butler set a plan and prepare for battle. 99.999% convinced that Rose's husband is the traitor Rose cages him so he can’t warn his pack.

A vicious battle ensues, and just when victory is within grasp, Rose’s husband lands at her feet clawed and unconscious. Bewildered, Rose hears the voice of her dead mother, the villainous alpha. She wants the organization burned to the ground and the hunters dead, but not her innocent daughter whom she wants to turn and join her.

The fight is fierce. Rose and her husband escape. Rose’s mother survives. Afterward, Rose fully accepts her lead role in the organization and familial responsibility as she declares war on her mother.
