When a girl without a voice is chosen to be the face of the world’s largest corporation, she must find her voice before a ruthless executive uses her to destroy her own community.
SYNOPSIS:
Haddie, 13, must wear a muzzle everywhere in life. She is forbidden to speak. The only place she may remove her muzzle is in her room, when she is alone. Her father (the only family member without a muzzle) is emotionally abusive to her mother and neither can defend themselves. At school, only the affluent children and the teachers are allowed to not have a muzzle. Those without muzzles bully those who has them. She only has one friend, who, though they cannot communicate to each other with words, is always there for her.
When a school bully targets her friend, Haddie neglects to speak up. Later, she tries to apologize to her friend by passing her a note in class. The note, however, is intercepted by the teacher and both Haddie and her friend are sent to the principal's office for unlawful communication.
There, they meet a well-dressed man who invites them to take part in a televised competition to become the new spokesperson for his prestigious company. Haddie must compete against other teenagers, both rich and poor, for the opportunity to raise her and her family's status forever. However, just as she starts to get a taste of the good life, she discovers that the well-dressed man really wants to use her to silence the voiceless forever. Does she play it safe and win the competition, helping herself and her family, or does she finally use her voice to speak for the oppressed, those like her?
