When a surprise inspection puts her County-funded, LA-based non-profit in jeopardy, Betty Hendrix, a crusader for the mentally ill and disenfranchised, will risk triggering past traumas to save her program.
SYNOPSIS:
It’s 2021 and Los Angeles is in crisis. With unaffordable housing, overcrowding in jails, the opioid epidemic, limited mental health facilities, and overall poverty, 65,000 people are homeless on the streets each night.
In the heart of South Central is the home of Second Chances Group Home (SCGH), a court sponsored non-profit halfway house for misdemeanor criminals with mental illness. The program is run by Betty Hendrix with the philosophy that it will be the community that solves the community’s problems. As a former foster child, teen prostitute, and survivor of sexual assault, she can relate to her Clients and address their needs in meaningful ways. Betty will use unorthodox methods to build a sustainable community that houses and serves 200 families in 10 years.
